    MACKIE: A SPECIAL FIXTURE

Posted on: Wed 07 Dec 2011
Jamie Mackie has revealed his excitement at the prospect of playing against Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

Just four years ago, Mackie was preparing for a Blue Square Premier clash against Halifax with Exeter.

Now he is getting ready to play a league match on one of the most famous footballing surfaces in world football.

"This is why I got involved in the game," Mackie told www.qpr.co.uk

"I am massively looking forward to this weekend - it is probably one of the highlight fixtures of the season.

"Anfield is an unbelievable place to play football. It is going to be a great atmosphere up there, and I am sure our fans are looking forward to it as much as we are.

"My dad is a Liverpool supporter and there are a few lads in the dressing room who support them too, so it is going to be a special match.

"But we have got to work hard to try and bring our good recent football into this game. We want to go there and get a positive result."

That recent good football saw Rangers win 3-2 at Stoke before suffering a harsh 2-1 loss at Norwich. And that was followed up with a 1-1 draw against West Brom at Loftus Road last weekend.

Having led through Heidar Helguson's first half header, the R's conceded late on to a late Shane Long strike, and Mackie admitted:"In the lead-up to that game we were all really keen to win it, and with the way the match went it felt like a loss when we came off.

"We have come quite a long way this season. We played some good football on Saturday, and I felt we dominated much of the game.

"But now, having had a couple of days to reflect on it, there are a lot of positives to take from the match and we have got to take the sort of football we're playing into Saturday's game at Liverpool.

"We have shown with our performances against Chelsea and Man City that we enjoy the challenge of playing against the top sides in the division, and hopefully we can do that again."

Following Saturday's trip to Merseyside, the R's host Champions Manchester United in W12, and Mackie said: "We have got two really tough games coming up but, like the Manager said recently, the reason we worked so hard to win promotion last season was to have the opportunity to be involved in games like these.

"We are all looking forward to them."

Mackie has burst back onto the First Team scene in startling fashion following his ten-month injury lay off, and he added: "I want to show I can do well in this division.

"I feel I have done that already, but I want to do it again. Liverpool have got world-class defenders and I am looking forward to giving them a good test."

He's a good lad. Mackie typifies everything that we hold dear about QPR: effort, application, desire, and sheer exuberant joy. He never gives less than 100%, and always plays with his heart on his sleeve and a smile on his face.

Only wish we could clone him, or inject some of his DNA into Taarabt.....

QPR defender hoping to fulfill boyhood dream at Liverpool

BACK in August, Clint Hill took exactly one second to outline his QPR Premiership dream – touching the ‘This is Anfield’ sign that greets players in the tunnel at Liverpool.

The 33-year-old, who spent his childhood supporting the Reds, thought his chance had gone when he got loaned out to Nottingham Forest earlier in the season.

But injuries and suspensions saw the left-back’s return in the 1-0 win over Chelsea, and even if he were to get just a few minutes in Saturday’s game – it would be ample return for dogged duty bestowed first to Tranmere, across the Mersey, and then at 14 years-worth of Championship teams.

Hill, who has started talks over a new deal at Loftus Road, said: “I’d love to fulfil that dream at Liverpool.

“Any fan will tell you it’s the same for them, but I thought my time was up at Rangers. I never wanted to leave, but that’s football. Having said that, you never know what’s next. I’m under no illusions and I know what I can do and can’t do.

“I also know I’m going to be in and out of the team, but I hope I can play a part for the rest of the season – and anything at Liverpool would be fantastic.”

We're all agreed on here that Vinnie Jones is a ****er but his Wimbledon team had the right attitude at Anfield. Show them no respect.

"Typically, the legacy of 16 league titles and four European Cups left Jones unimpressed and the midfielder slapped a piece of paper adorned with the words 'BOTHERED!' over the 'This Is Anfield' sign."

We need a Warnock special for this game. Run them ragged, get in their face and don't let them play. Simples!! WE nearly did it with Man City (albeit at home) - come on you Rsssssssssssssss!!

Tough ties for the rest of the year. Scousers then Man Utd followed by what is likely to be a rejuvenated Black Cats side under their new manager. Christmas of the Swans and Gooners, ouch.

I would settle for 8 or 9 points but could be as few as 3 or 4!!

Warnock keeps banging on about what a wonderful bunch of lads he has at QPR and how much fun they always have in training. I'd like to see them being more serious and take a leaf out of Mackie's book of hard work.

QPR summon spirit of 91 to try and improve Liverpool record – history
Wed 07th Dec 2011 18:36 by Clive Whittingham

If QPR are to secure an unlikely victory against Liverpool on Saturday, they’ll have to overcome a dreadful record on this ground to do so. The solitary win to date came in 1991, inspired by Les Ferdinand.

    Wilson heads down memory lane
I'll be at Anfield this weekend for Queens Park Rangers' first visit there since 1995.

Go back another four years and you'll find Rangers' only ever win at Liverpool. It was something of a landmark for them, and one for me too as it was my first broadcast commentary.

KD on Gerrard, Jonjo and QPR
    8th Dec 2011 - Latest News

Kenny Dalglish today revealed he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash with Queens Park Rangers as he backed Liverpool to put their Fulham frustration behind them.

The boss reported a clean bill of health following Monday's 1-0 defeat at Craven Cottage, though the Reds will be without the suspended Jay Spearing for this weekend's visit of QPR, while Lucas Leiva will miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

Dalglish also confirmed Steven Gerrard is continuing to make good progress in his rehabilitation from an ankle infection, though he won't face Neil Warnock's side as Liverpool aim to return to winning ways.

The manager acknowledges the Reds were left disappointed after seeing their 11-game unbeaten run brought to an end by Fulham, though he insists the confidence of his side remains undeterred.

"We are disappointed we didn't win the game," Dalglish told his pre-match press conference at Melwood. "We've just got to get on with it. We didn't get carried away when we were winning games and on a run, so we won't get overly depressed at the same time.

"If we said last week that draws aren't where we set our standards, then certainly losing 1-0 at Fulham, with all due respect, isn't what we set our standards for.

"We wanted to come away with three points but we didn't, so we just have to keep believing and do what we do best.

"As we say, it's up to us to put the chances (we create) away."

Newly-promoted QPR are Liverpool's next task when they journey to Merseyside for Saturday's 3pm kick-off.

The Londoners sit 12th in the Barclays Premier League table having garnered 16 points from their opening 14 matches, and Dalglish has been impressed by the manner in which they have acquitted themselves to life in the top flight.

"I think the three (promoted) sides have done very well," he said. "QPR played well against Man City at Loftus Road and were unlucky not to win, so if they can do well against the team at the top of the league I'm sure they will be looking to do well when they come here. All we can do is compete against them as best as we possibly can.

"They got off to a bad start at home and lost the first game 4-0 (against Bolton). Then they got a new owner, Neil got a couple of quid to spend and spent it well, so that's helped to improve them."

Neil Warnock will be the manager in the visiting dugout on Saturday, and Dalglish is looking forward to locking horns with his opposite number.

He joked: "He is the same away from the cameras and microphones, although he doesn't really like to be too far away from them - I think he enjoys them a bit more than some!

"He is a good character, it's great that he is in the Premier League and it was a fantastic way for them to come up as champions.

"He has done brilliantly and although they got off to a bad start, he has spent the money the new owner gave him wisely and they've kicked on. They're a formidable side, it's great for him and I'm sure he's enjoying himself. I look forward to having a drink with him after the game."

Meanwhile, Dalglish believes Jonjo Shelvey can make an impact on the first team if called upon in the coming weeks.

The 19-year-old was recalled from a loan spell with Blackpool following news of Lucas's injury and scored twice in a reserve-team friendly with Wigan earlier this week.

"We brought him back from Blackpool, where he had a couple of fantastic games," said Dalglish. "He played in the reserves on Tuesday for an hour and scored a couple.

"We know what Jonjo is all about and it was a good experience for him going to Blackpool. If we get everybody back fit and from suspension then it may be the case he goes back out again, but whilst he's here we know what he can do and can make a contribution as he did last year in a lot of the games he came on in."
