The only thing that annoyed me about the draw is playing this tie at home first, because I think we will still have work to do in the 2nd leg.
that'll be our own fault. we have the opportunity now in front of us. their results are so inconsistent I can't figure what is what but they did for sporting so we have to expect a good game.
It was always must win. I really want to see klopp win this at anfield west. the media are pointing to atleanta having major away issues but thier recent results are hard to fathom they are currently 6th in serie a with a similar record to utd. 15 wins 5 draws and 10 losses and have conceded 34 goals in 30 games, scoring 55. Cagiliari 2 Atlanta 1 13th Firoentina 1 atlanta 0 (cup SF leg 1) Napoli 0 Atlanta 3 ( away) napoli are 7th Atlanta 2 Sporting 1 1st in potugal Juve 2 Atlanta 2 3rd Sporting 1 Atlanta 1 (this is the big one) Atlanta 1 Bologna 2 4th Inter 4 atlanta 0 1st Milan 1 atlanta 1 2nd Atlanta 3 sassuolo 0 19th genoa 1 atlanta 4 12th atlanta 3 lazio 1 lazio are 8th atlanta 2 udinese 0 15th this suggest to me that they are more than capable of getting a result again teams i nthe CL spaces in italy (milan, juve) and have posisbly focused on the europa. The loss to bologna had a HEAVILY changed team line up to rest scamacca for example. What i do not is an absolutely crazy fixutre for them at the weekend. We play thrusday so they are being mad eplay next MONDAY and then the home tie again on thursday. I wuld expect them to rest everyeon if they are still in the tie. thier line up is usually 3 at the back Musso Djimsiti Hien Kolasinac (we know this guy) Holm Ederson De Roon Bakker/ruggeri Miranchuk Lookmam (we know this clown) scamacca (the huge danger)
It'd be nice. Reality speaks to a side who've already given their all and are a bit shaky if anything. I think if we get a goal we will sit on it rather than keep going. Thats the pattern in all recent games. We ought to be able to easily beat this lot over two legs but i think we've probabaly peaked for the season already. Hopefully injuries are done but integrating in half fit players now could throw us off our game at a crucial time.
They are an aggressive attacking team but lack composure and have been for a long time now. If we're not switched on this is a proper banana skin.
Not necessarily - we've made innumerable chances and failed to take them. That's not sitting on a lead, it's just being unable to consolidate it.
OK, I get your point but at the same time we have not shown the same urgency to score. we get into this short passing round the back and midfield waiting for someone to come out and general seeing the clock tick by rather than really being penetrative and creating real chances. a lot of the chances we do see are flashed over or wide as well. we don't make a big overload and get in as much imo.
We don't press as well these days we used to, but we do make plenty of chances. I would use the phrase "sit back" for a team that retreats and tries to soak up pressure and see a game out that way, and that isn't a Klopp team. The only time we've done that is when we were down to 9 men.
thats fair. I am only refering to the swithc in mentality i thnk we can all see when we get a lead. the passing chances form trying to go forward and maybe risking the ball to salah to this always short passing and you can find tow players bassing it between them 3 and 4 times while not being pressed. IMo we stop then making the runs up top and we stop looking for the pass... and as a result start to nd up being pushed backwards I jsut the the amount of long v short passes chance radically if we are leading or chasing.
In interviews the players always stress how they have to be patient and not try too hard to force things. This is obviously being coached into them and can make them appear to have a lack of urgency, imo. Whenever we're chasing a game an increased urgency is bound to happen, even if they are theoretically trying to be patient. We become more inventive then and press harder. We definitely play better when chasing, which is why I'm no longer dismayed when we go behind - I think it makes for a better game.
