As they've said, if when he's not getting on the first team he can play & score in reserves it'll hopefully make him a possible impact player as a sub.
decent game, i think a few young lads need to develop over the course of the year. a few technical errors and tactical no nos committed. overall though good first half, some good performances overall. must say as usual u21 refs let lads away with murder. the thing i do not get is how the hell coates aint kicking about at this level more. kelly did ok... borini really wanted his game it seems. utd have some really decent young lads there too.... we were very young on the bench too so i think we've stripped the place a wee bit between injuries promotions and loans but thats all ok cos its allowing young lads come in and learn.
You would think that they would try and bring the ball out more, like the first team, as they lose possession so much from goal kicks.
well there was a few long balls there and honestly a wee too much back passing. rossiter is only 16? you have to say he's in there with 19-21 year olds and not out of place. lloyd jones made a lot of little errors he'll learn from.. overall but ward's kicking is not exactly accurate.
They attempted it in the first half but after United successfully closed down quickly they seem to drop it. Suppose it feels safer to inexperienced keeper and defence (Kelly aside)
if coates plays i na three at the back v notts co next week i think its a singal nobody trusts him a leg at the back. i think they want rid of him. I just want to point out that he's supposedly on 25k per week! i think given the fact aspas, alberto and couthni are on the same... well....
Yeah, going on your reasonable theory, why on earth would you pay a guy to be 5th choice CB the same as your first choice number 10?
Good to see Kelly & Borini playing and getting some fitness and match sharpness with under 21's. Glad Borini got some goals, hopefully boost his confidence

Very good game for Suso Made up for our youth last night - bounced back from 1-0 down to a very strong Utd side. I read somewhere that our side had 5 players under 18 whereas Utd has none! A lot of people are raving about Rossiter and it's easy to see why - great awareness, passing ability and strong in the tackle. Ibe and Borini are clearly too good for this level.
Also Liverpool's Suso who is on loan to Almeria in La Liga. He played in Almerias 2-2 away draw with Getafe last night and assisted both goals. So far that is 4 assists in 2 games. Incidentally he has set up every Almeria goal this season. He was a constant feature in preseason and this has done the lad well. If this progress continues he could be a big player for us next year. (Early days of course.) http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...getafe-2-2-almeria-as-it-happened_100280.html
Playing some great football
good win today... yet again underage football sees horrendous reffing where players get away with murder. everton fouls in league 2 would have been red let alone prem....
Must admit that i missed it because I was in a Poker tournament last night and didnt leave the casino til 6am..lol Any players stand out for you?
I posted this on a thread about youngsters that died a week ago. Thought I'd share again: I do feel that as a club we have made mistakes in youth policy in the past. We had a golden generation of talent coming up under Rafa - and most were squandered away. There are two components of succeeding as a young player. First is the player's commitment, training, and hard work. Second is the manager's utilisation of this player. Many of our players have been criticised for not "using their opportunities well". This unfortunately isn't always the full story. "The manager sees them in training so they must know best". This also is untrue. In the end, we have had a few players reach maximum training/effort levels in lower levels, only to be denied proper chances in the first team. Take Dani Pacheco. He literally carried the entire U21 side to a fantastic year two seasons ago. He was a cut above everyone on the pitch (much like Borini was yesterday). However his only chances came in the form of playing for sides composed of equally marginalised players in the far reaches of Eastern Europe, or to West Brom on a cup night after everyone else was exhausted. What happens is that every player on the pitch is trying to impress the manager. Everyone on the pitch is unexperienced and hoping for guidance. Once 11 of these players take part in a game, no one looks confident enough to warrant a place in the first team. Eventually, all of the youngsters look poor, are recycled and then sent off to lower leagues where they will make their careers. Rodgers however is doing the proper thing. He immerses the best youngsters that have earned their chance into the first team - by playing them with senior members in a squad where they are the only inexperienced ones. They can now be carried by the experience of senior players and their helping play. They will make mistakes but they will also look great because of who they are playing with. This will lead to more Sterlings/Ibe's and less Nemeth, Pacheco, Insua, etc types. Hopefully the team starts producing more starlets and less "decent and I hope they make it, but let's be real they probably won't"-players.
