I read this transfer roundup and all I can say is what a great job Kenny Dalglish and Comolli have done at the club. Even though they may have overpaid for Downing and Henderson the likes of Enrique, Adam and Bellamy are great cheap transfers. Really surprised that Meireles left though and that someone like Arsenal didn't try and get him.
So did that 'finger incident' after the 2nd goal against Arsenal actually mean anything then? Even if it didn't, I think we got rid of a bad apple out of the basket in the end. Meireles will not be missed.
Fair point, Xabi. I was at the match and missed that, but I was told about it. Money: the route of all evil.
We've done well since January, we've made 9 signings for an overall net cash outlay of £34.5 million. (£115.5-£81 million). Since January 2009 we've spent £174 million and recouped £173 million.
Don't know where those figures EMF, but they're very impressive if correct. Put MAF's efforts to shame!
I'll tell you where they came from. After the summer of 2010 Liverpool had spent £59 million and recouped £102 million. January 2011 that had gone up to spent £117 million recouped £158 million. Summer 2011 that has gone up to spent £173 million and recouped sorry I earlier miscalculated £180 million.
i am a bit concerned about our spending so far. we made a 1 million profit in january and in the summer we spent a net 34 million. but because we drastically shrunk the wage bill with all the sales we are probably saving 20-25 mill a year in wages. so regardless of how you look at it we either have spent 33 million this year or 9-10 million. how much as a club do we make in a season from profit now do dont have any loan to pay off? do we cover the costs ourselves or have the new owners actually put any of their own money into the club? i dont want to sound greddy but if we are to catch up with the big teams we need huge investment, our midfield looks very weak for instance. we have let aquilani go, mereles go and gerrard is constantly injured leaving us with: lucas adam spearing shevely not very convincing tbh i am a little worried about this season after raul sale last night.i was hoping the owners were going to give us a war-chest.
Not sure whether to take you seriously or not, whichever way you look at it the owner's have constantly backed the management with funds for players we've wanted and we've made some excellent progress in the transfer market. Remember this time last year we were signing the likes of Poulsen, Jovanovic and Konchesky! Lucas is going to be a key player this year and he has already shown how important he will be for us, such a key player, Spearing also showed last season how good a job he can do when needed. Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson are already showing how good they are in centre midfield, especially Adam and, once Gerrard's fit this will be stronger and also gives chances for the likes of Shelvey to develop.
