Just received this rumour via text. Silly season has officially begun. If there is any truth in it id be doing backflips if we accepted then were to bring in Larsson, Vaughan and Reo Coker on frees.
Well after todays events with Jordan Henderson, it would not surprise me if there were some truth in it. After all, there have been regular rumours about Catts and Liverpool, so let's wait and see what develops.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Cattermole seems like a fairly average CM to me in the grand scheme of things. I can't see why Liverpool would pay through the arse for these two?
i heard on here that catternole had a 13 million release clause (not sure how true it is though), so thats 15 million for henderson, not a bad price for us but i thought they would hold out for another few million. PS: I hate seeing players leave, especially to a rival (they are not top 4 yet and hopefully top 6-8 is where we want to be next season).
Seriously though, i say we keep Jordan, and they can have Catts. We have the ginga ninja now, he'll be struggling for game time anyway.
Many might disagree but I think Larsson is better than Henderson and Reo Coker isn't worse than Cattermole, add to the fact we have Colback and Meyler i think this would be a good bit of business.
I like Larsson and Reo-Coker, the fact that they are free doesn't make them any less a footballer. Be great business to sign them both, i agree.
BOLLOCKS................ but if true, Henderson we keep, local lad an all, catts ...............flog him , If pool want him , Byeeeeee, take the money, he aint that good.
I'm confused as to why Liverpool (Gerrard, Meireles, Lucas, Spearing, Shelvey) would possibly buy a CM. It's literally the only position where Liverpool have strength in depth. That aside, 28m would be good for the two of them, but as before I'd definitely want decent replacements before we sell them.
found this, but no fee's from the telegraph Dalglish is keen to bolster his midfield with young English talent and is an admirer of both Cattermole and his Sunderland team-mate Jordan Henderson, who is valued at £14 million. He has made informal inquiries about Cattermole, 23, and is set to follow them up with an official offer
I am mixed, good price and all that but sort of a feeling of wait, if Liverpool want them why dont we..
Didn't know we got 26 million for bent, good call The Sun LIVERPOOL are going to have to scrap like wildcats to get the Black Cats to flog Jordan Henderson. Kop boss Kenny Dalglish is keen on adding the England Under-21 midfielder to his squad but Sunderland have told them he is not for sale. Dalglish will bid £20million but Mackems chief Steve Bruce does not want to sell another star after Darren Bent's £26m switch to Aston Villa. Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have already shown they have deep pockets after forking out a combined £57.8m on Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in January. But they will not be happy having to pay another £4.4m as the latest instalment for £17.6m flop Alberto Aquilani, whose move to Juventus has fallen through
Seems like the scousers are going on a spending spree, and want to throw silly money around. Liverpool are closing in on a £30million swoop for two of England’s hottest prospects — Blackburn defender Phil Jones and Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson. The Anfield giants increased their initial offer of £13m for Henderson, 20, to £15m yesterday and are hopeful Sunderland will compromise on their asking price of £18m. Liverpool bound: Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones are two of England's brightest young talents Liverpool are also ready to make a formal offer to Blackburn for £15m-rated Jones, though they face a battle for him with Arsenal and Tottenham. The moves are part of Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish’s strategy of buying top English talent, having signed striker Andy Carroll in January for £35m from Newcastle. The club have also asked about the availability of midfielder Lee Cattermole at the Stadium of Light. Recruitment drive: Liverpool's new manager Kenny Dalglish has purposefully targeted young English players since taking his seat back in the Anfield dugout Henderson and Jones are in Spain with the England Under 21 party preparing for this month’s European Championship in Denmark. Stuart Pearce’s squad fly home tonight before travelling to Southampton for Sunday’s friendly against Norway, but Henderson is on stand-by to travel to Merseyside and complete the deal as soon as the two clubs agree a fee.
When he's fully fit, he breaks up the play very well and will give any team a possession advantage or at least a leg-up. His distribution is sometimes weak and generally, teams are less intimidated by him these days. I used to rate him very highly and honestly thought he was England material until I saw Mark Noble completely own him last season (circa March 2010) and it's now happened quite a few times since, ordinary you say? I don't think Clatter-em'all will ever be ordinary as for a "fairly average CM" -he's possibly a little bit better than that. I think (approx) 8-10 million sounds about right for the lad
Young, English and with bags of potential. Looks like Liverpool have got everything spot on at the moment and I fully expect them to be in the top 4 next season and challenging for the title in another 2 or 3 seasons. Sunderland on the other hand, whats going on! If we lost another 2 players would we even have 11 to start the pre-season friendlies? haha
