Liverpool will not sell the naming rights to Anfield but will consider re-branding their Main Stand. Last season's Premier League runners-up are on the cusp of getting the final all clear to proceed with the expansion of Anfield - changing the stadium's capacity to 59,000. Pivotal to this is the £75million expansion of the club's Main Stand. Work is planned to begin next year negotiating a naming rights deal would pay a significant chunk of the construction costs. Chief commercial officer Billy Hogan said: 'We wouldnât consider selling naming rights for the stadium as a whole but in terms of the name of the Main Stand thatâs something we will look at. 'The new main stand is going to be a big focus for all of us. The process is still ongoing. Weâre getting closer to certainty but weâre not there yet.' Talking to the Liverpool Echo, he added: 'When that certainty arrives from a commercial standpoint weâll be ready to get to work on that. 'Weâll be looking to bring in a number of new partners. A naming partnership for the stand would make sense.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ain-stand-not-sell-naming-rights-anfield.html Any suggestions for a name for the Main Stand?
nice one! If it goes ahead I'd prefer it to be named after a player rather than a company - Dalglish comes to mind.
as in name of the company that sponsors it the most? so we could end up with the burger king stand for example. you know what ht grub is going to be lol. shocking if so, i know its needed in the modern age sadly, but still think its ****ing disgraceful to take the soul out of something in the name of ruddy money. or could it be named anything ie not from a commercial point of view( although i suspect they will have huge influence) so we could have a legends name for the stand?
Renaming the stand could potentially cover most of the construction costs so it's a no brainer for me. As long as the stadium name stays the same, I'm happy,
It will, I wouldn't be surprised if we work something out with our current main sponsers.. Standard Chartered Main Stand... I could live with that..
Its only the stand name, and the current name is just the functional name for it so its no great loss and if it helps cover the redevelopment costs then we should go with it
This. They're not renaming Anfield or the Kop; does anyone feel attached to the name Main Stand? Subway Stand anyone? I've always like the name of the Playmobile Stadium in Germany. I was disappointed when it wasn't actually made out of Playmobile (Lego is way better than Playmobile though).
I'm not exactly sure what a 'naming partnership' is. Would it be a main sponsor like you say, I don't know. Looking at the sponsors we have at the moment, the only one I wouldn't be happy with would be Dunkin Donuts Stand Carlsberg, Maxxis, Warrior, Garuda .... all ok.
It would be a great gesture but as you point out it will probably be a money spinner. I do hope we have something to in place for her soon though.
wouldnt work for me jb, i dont want anne being associated with burger king for example. we should have a HUGE iron statue of anne at the end of the memorial walk or something with a plaque that has the words THE REAL IRON LADY.
I get what you're saying. I was thinking along the lines of the word Memorial encompassing not only Anne Williams but everybody held dear [can't think of a proper phrase] by the club and fans. Carlsberg Memorial for example, sounds fine to me and adds a bit more of the club feeling than just Carlsberg Stand, especially as the sponsor would be paying for the thing as well.
It doesn't have a name anyway, 'The Main Stand' isn't really a name is it. Think this has to be done these days to keep in touch financially. No problem with it. Would be great to have it named after a club legend but it will be a multinational company's name up there.
Couldn't care less what they call it, we need the money to build it and no one will ever call it anything but the Main Stand anyway, so it's basically money for nothing.
