Worst Spurs transfer story of the summer so far??? http://www.caughtoffside.com/2011/0...ttenham-with-22m-player-plus-cash-swap-offer/ Liverpool will offer Alberto Aquilani as bait to tempt Totttenham into selling Aaron Lennon. The Reds are keen to add to their wide options this summer in a bid to bring the best out of £35m striker Andy Carroll. Lennon has emerged as their number one target in this area with his phenomenal pace offering the mouth-watering prospect of lightning counter attacks in combination with crowd favourite Luis Suarez. Lennon is believed to have had a series of disagreements with manager Harry Redknapp last season with their relationship at breaking point despite his regular selection at the end of the campaign. Spurs are not averse to selling the England international but will ensure they get a proper fee in return. Liverpool have already made tentative enquiries with the possibility of making a £20m bid but with Luka Modric the subject of Chelseaâs interest, they will now offer unwanted midfielder Aquilani as a ready made replacement for the Croat along with £8m. SOURCE: Fanatix Given that Juventus steadfastly refuse to pay the asking price for Alberto Aquilani, after the Italianâs solid season on loan at the Turin club last term, it seems that the midfielder is on his way back to Anfield but perhaps he will then in turn be offered to help secure alternative targets? Kenny Dalglish doesnât appear to see the 26 year old former Roma man as part of his long term plans so it does therefore make sense to use the player as bait where possible. Aquilaniâs time on Merseyside has seemed doomed from the outset. Signed for a large fee whilst injured only to be ignored by Rafa Benitez when fully fit, you would be forgiven for thinking that Alberto was never really wanted by the Premier League side. However the midfielder is back in form now and part of the Italian national team set-up and perhaps Harry Redknapp would be keen on his services? Aaron Lennon and the Tottenham boss fell out towards the end of last season after the winger pulled out of the huge Champions League encounter with Real Madrid, the England international then felt he was used as a scapegoat for the 4-0 defeat at the Bernabeu and even showed his displeasure via his Twitter account. Director of football Damien Comolli knows Lennon well from his time at the North London club and perhaps his involvement could help push some sort of deal through. Liverpool have already snapped up promising young Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson and Dalglish has his eyes on further additions and clearly the clubâs board are more than willing to finance such signings, having paid big money for Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll back in January. Liverpool could well do with natural winger purchases having used the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez, Milan Jovanovic and Joe Cole with varying degrees of success and failure. Stewart Downing, Charles NâZogbia and Juan Mata have all been mooted as targets as Dalglish looks to bring in old fashioned wide players but perhaps Lennonâs frightening pace and direct style is now on the clubâs scouting radar. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has his hands full trying to keep his top performers from being tempted by sides who can offer Champions League football and the fight is on to keep Gareth Bale and Luka Modric from the grasp of Chelsea and Man City. The White Hart Lane manager has been told he must sell before he can buy but is hoping to balance any prospective additions by selling off some of his expansive squad and is looking to sell squad players such as David Bentley, Robbie Keane, Niko Kranjcar, Sebastien Bassong, Giovani dos Santos, Alan Hutton and Wilson Palacios.
That is, indeed, one of the worst transfer stories of the Summer, so far. "Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has his hands full trying to keep his top performers from being tempted by sides who can offer Champions League football." Yes, because 'Pool can offer CL footy now, and are likely ever to be able to offer it for the foreseeable future And, like we are going to be tempted by players who couldn't even make it at 'Pool Unfortunately, though, I rather fear that we are going to have to put up with a lot more of this dross before the Summer is out.
Not today we don't and I pray we don't tomorrow. However, we must not be so blind as to realise that the bids for Bale will start coming thick and fast before the season starts. Hopefully they won't be too good to refuse, but never say never
Aquilani is dross.....Pool should be taken to the cleaners..about 35 million.....plus reina should do it i shall not grumble at such a proposition....if this rubbish ends up being true
on fifa11....southampton paid 30 million to me(spurs) to purchase Bentley...so im thinking can we not fax Southampton FC to get him off our hands?
The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe is worth less than 9m and a good Bentley a fraction of that. Your 30m must have been lira or rupees
Aquilani is a good player but he wouldn't get into the first team as we are. We need to be looking to get competition for Lennon this summer, not selling him.
Aquilani's best position during his first season at Liverpool was playing in the hole, behind a lone striker. He probably had his best game against us, annoyingly, when we lost 2-0 at Anfield, with the usual Kop decisions helping them through. Is he better than van der Vaart or Kranjcar, who can both fill that role for us? No and no, in my opinion, plus he's extremely injury prone.
