Tottenham are bracing themselves for an approach from Liverpool for either centre-back Steven Caulker or Michael Dawson.

The Anfield outfit are scouting a host of alternatives to Daniel Agger, who has been subject of bids from both Barcelona and Manchester City this summer.

The Dane has no immediate desire to leave Merseyside, but recently admitted that the lure of playing in Spain could prove too much.

That has forced new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers into the market, where he hopes to pick up a similar-style defender, a process which has taken him to White Hart Lane, according to the Metro.

Caulker enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season at Swansea under the Rodgers' guidance, when he blossomed from promising player to fully-developed Premier League talent, culminating in a stellar showing at the Olympics with Team GB.

At Tottenham, former Nottingham Forest man Dawson, 28, suffered a serious injury which sidelined him for most of the year.

Neither player are expected to be Andre Villas-Boas' first choice, with French international Younes Kaboul likely to partner summer signing Jan Vertonghen.

Not saying it's true but definitely worth discussing imo.

It's still daily fail though .. And is it, is it really? It will just attract WUMs who'll decide to come on here to insult LFC.

It's not on the LFC board though, I posted it from a Spurs point of view.

With Gallas, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Caulker and Dawson I can see someone becoming unhappy with lack of game time and Agger would need replacing if he is sold.

Fair enough, well let's hope he isn't sold, and then if this story is true, we won't then have to come after your players <ok>

i would think Caulker would play if Kaboul or Vertonghen were injured, and i think if AVB rotates the squad they will stay happy.

even if this is bullshit, I've had a feeling that someone will come in for one of our CB's at some point, I was just hoping it'd be Gallas.

I don't see how we can sell any of them with 4 competitions next season. but then again, will we compete in all 4, or will we say goodbye to say 2 of them, to focus on the league and 1 cup in particular?

  11. Considering losing Caulker or Dawson would be madness!!
Gallas arguably could go and certainly Bassong.
Bu to consider giving the Mousers anyone half decent would be self-defeating.

Hopefully this is just cheap Fail journalism.

  12. I cannot see Levy letting either Dawson or Caulker leave. Defence was an area that we were lacking in, during the course of last season, but it's now looking very solid for us, with Walker, Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Vertoghen, Gallas, Bassong, Benny, and Fryers, not to mention the likes of Rose and Bale who can also put a shift in, at LB, if things go absolutely desperate.

However, if we let either of Dawson or Caulker go, it would only take a couple of injuries and we'd be stuffed again.

Nah, sorry. I cannot see it happening.

Caulker might go out on loan, but I bet we retain the right to recall him, if he's needed back at the Lane.

Caulker might be difficult to keep, he wants regular football, having represented GB and getting his first senior international call up puts him in a strong position, he's clearly well thought of outside the club.

I don't see Caulker being sold, more likely Dawson as he's older and will be a last chance for Levy to command a big fee for him.

I completely forgot we still had Bassong, I'd happily see him go to Liverpool for £10million :)

Caulker and Dawson should be pushing Vertonghen and Kaboul for their places.
They'll have plenty of opportunity to do so in the various cups, I think and the first choice (presumably) pairing will miss games here and there, at least.

    *stifles laughter*

We really should've loaned Bentley to Swansea last season - Liverpool would've taken him off our hands by now...

I don't see why we would bolster the 3rd best defence in the league (not bad for a team who finished 8th) with mediocre defenders such as Dawson. Can't really comment on Caulker as I've not seen him play. <ok>

Bloody hell Liverpool are Swansea reserves, can't Brendan find anyone who has not played for us ? Think Caulker is a cracking player who will get his chances at spurs, once playing you won't drop him, he's that good.
