Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto accepts that he will have to remain patient if he wants to become a first team regular at Anfield.

The 21-year-old Spaniard left Sevilla for Merseyside in a £7m deal during the summer but has been offered just 76 minutes of Premier League action by Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool's best start to a season for many campaigns will also have played its part in limiting Alberto's opportunities this season.

All of his five league appearances, so far, have been as a substitute and Alberto admits he has had to work hard in the gym to improve his physical conditioning.

Alberto said: "I would like to play more, I am waiting for my chances. The truth is I need to play more and I hope to do it.

"I have to wait for the manager to start having confidence in me and then repay his confidence on the pitch.

"I have been working a few months and I have learned and I am going to wait for my moment.

"I have discovered it is faster football, more physical, and you have to be in better physical condition.

"I have improved in many aspects: my physique is better and I am heavier now - these details contribute to better preparation."

First things first, title states forward, first line of article states midfielder <doh>

But what have we made of Alberto? Limited first team chances, but looked composed and decent on the ball when played. Scored a hatrick for under 21's a month os so back. Looks like he could be a good player, but should he be given more chances in the league?

I think BR is missing a trick by not bringing him on when we've been ahead comfortably like against Fulham. 3-0 at half time, would have been a perfect chance to give him a decent run out, same against West Brom. Now we have a tough run of games, can't see him gettig much action and with no Europa or cup games could be a while before we see him.

Do we think we should be trying to get him more first team action or do we let him get used to the team this year and then integrate him more next year?

Technically he looks very good so if he can adjust to the pace of the game then I really think he can be a top player, he should have played in for Coutinho imo and would have done a better job than Moses.

Sometimes it's better to give the new young lads time to settle, get them hungry to play. It's tough to say either way, I thought he looked a bit off the pace when he played but that's understandable. Looking forward to seeing how he develops. We could do with another little gem to keep the squad growing stronger.

agree about should have brought him on in games like the Fulham one, but it could also be a good thing to test the youngsters up against better players as well see hope they get on.

remember Robinson brought in once to mark Walcott and most of us was probably thinking ffs he will run rings round our player, but he didn't, maybe it helped him.

sometimes its good to see where the players are at by testing them against better players, but that only seems to happen if we have to use them.

I rate him, think he will be a solid player for us. Just as long as he continues to develop and get him used to this league. He'll get his big chance. <ok>

I think he has a lot of potential - looks confident on the ball, always looking for the pass. Not afraid to try ambitious passes or shots either which is a sign of his confidence. I think once Suso returns next season, we should loan Alberto.
