Yes its back.... forget last year thats in the past. As tradition dictates this will be the 5th annual single Preseason thread for LFC. And as per the season is utterly ****ed up by this hateful sport washing debacle that will happen in December Preseason will start with the ubiquitous run til you puke while james milner beats you all lactate test on the 4th of july. (yes really, 2 weeks time or so) We will then tour the far east to play some price gouging games against Man United (Bangkok) and Crystal Palace (Singapore) scheduled for July 12 and 15 respectively. We are booked into the same Austrian training camp then in the town of Saalfelden. We have at least two more friendlies against our favourite scouting feeder clubs RB Leipzig and Salzburg Preseason will conclude with us playing Man City in the Community Shield on July 30. (yes that's actually the date. how crazy is that) so bloody early!!!) BTW this game is not even at Wembley its on in Leicester's ground. 4 fixtures confirmed thus far: Man United – Bangkok, July 12 Crystal Palace – Singapore, July 15 RB Leipzig – Austria, TBC Salzburg – Austria, TBC Man City – Community Shield, King Power, July 30 the season officially kicks off on 6th august so there is not likely to be time for any more games to be fitted in unless we try a very early kick about locally before the 12th or try fit in a home on the midweek prior to the season start. If you could see your way to answering the quick poll to see how optimistic/pessimistic you all are that'd be just "awesome". another poll on Sept 1st after window shut (and half bloody season is over!)
we do seem to have a decent record with home games coming up first and last. what I am really interested in is the game frequency prior to world cup (have them made a mess there), games right after world cup (are we headed for christmas festive fixture list then and my most important the final 10 game sof run in compared to city. Last season i had ths feeling city had the easier fixtures and we needed to get a lead. as it turned out we were epic and nearly caught them. I think we can look at the fixtures and have a fair idea whats what. 95 points min for title = massive ask anyway but having no top 4 games in last 5 or 6 would help.
there's a limit to the number of option so i left out the double and a double. i wanted to have enough negative options for folk to feel happy.
If Darwin is as good as I hope he is, then I think we can manage top two and a domestic cup. Pre Darwin I had my doubts. I'm not expecting a quad run again. We could win one of the big two trophies but I'm not expecting it. I see this as a bit of a transition year. The old three is broken up. Firm is still here but probably won't see nearly as much action. Mane is gone and Salah remains to be seen if he will become good again. We've got an aging midfield now too. We may get some new blood, or may have to wait until next summer. This is going to be a learning year for Nunez and any new midfielders we get... And a weening year off dependency of Salah. Because of that, I don't think we'll do as well. If Nunez is the Suarez the Second, as the media claims, we'll come second. If he doesn't quite live up to that label yet, we could be as low as fourth. A lot also depends on the midfield, we still don't know if we get new player there. Hendo and Milner are slightly old now. Keita plays like a French Naturist... Midfield doesn't fill me with confidence that we can go and win anything major next year. It let us down a lot as the season finished this year... It's moving backwards now.
If it were real it's nice easy games to start the season and build confidence/inertia. Never want to start with difficult fixtures.
