I saw this article whilst accidentally straying back into old 606 and though I'd post the interview here, as I can't see it on this forum.

The below interview my take on things. I used to think that the move was primarily engineered by Carroll, but that Ashley was also all too happy to allow things to happen. Now I'm more on the Carroll being pushed out side of things, although his lucrative contract and change to new agent (who also has Nolan on his books) would have almost definitely made him more willing to be pushed.

Personally i think it is a complete load of bollocks! So by his logic , if chelsea had only offered 40m for Torres , then no deal would have been done for Carroll? So Liverpool wouldn't have been able to buy Suarez? But Suarez deal was done earlier in the deal BEFORE NUFC accepted offer for Carroll and Chelsea spoke to Torres! The little lying **** stirrer!

He is saying that Chelsea would pay £15m more than Liverpool would have to pay for Carroll. So whatever price Ashley wanted (within reason I'd imagine), Chelsea would better by 15m to get Torres and leave Liverpool only spending around 7.5m total on a new strike force.

The point is he says the sale of Torres financed the purchase of Suarez , but Sky announced a fee had been agreed for Suarez and a deal done on Monday morning long before the Carroll/Torres deals were done!
