There has been plenty to talk about over the last 24 hours so I've decided to post this thread to put all today's news in once place. I didn't want to put it into the 'LFC Today' thread because a seperate thread gives us all the chance to discuss the recent events.

Cole: The former Chelsea star faces an uncertain future after a disappointing first season at Anfield

After signing two of their priority targets, Liverpool will now attempt to sell the unwanted members of their squad.

Former Blackpool captain Charlie Adam finally completed his move to Anfield on Thursday night following six months of negotiations and speculation.

The Scotland international's signing comes after Jordan Henderson was bought from Sunderland at the beginning of the summer break.

Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni looks set to become the next arrival, while Aston Villa's England winger Stewart Downing remains a target, despite a failed initial Â£15million bid.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has also confirmed that the Reds will now aim to make some room in their squad, with the likes of Milan Jovanovic, Paul Konchesky and Joe Cole included in the probable departures.

"We are very pleased because the two signings we've done were absolute priorities on our list," said the Frenchman.

"When you go into a transfer window you always have X number of targets and it's very rare you get all of them.

Strategy

"We're lucky we've got two of our priorities. That's good, and I'm sure there'll still be a lot of movement, especially going out but also, hopefully, a few more coming in."

The fact Liverpool's two new signings, and the third they are chasing, are British is a bonus rather than a necessity, according to Comolli.

It had been suggested Kenny Dalglish was implementing a policy of signing players from the home nations - similar to the one which brought him success first time round as Reds boss - but both the manager, in the past, and now Comolli have dismissed that notion.

"There is always a strategy. It's about players who we've identified through the year," said Comolli.

"You identify players in positions where you think you're weak or, if not weak, you think you can get better or add an extra body.

"There is a strategy in terms of profile of players we want to bring in: the mentality, the attitude, the work ethic - and the age is also a factor.

"People think about the citizenship and passport - but this doesn't really matter as much as what I've just said."

Poulsen: Expected to travel to Far East with the rest of the Liverpool squad

Christian Poulsen still does not know if he has a future at Liverpool, according to his representative.

The Denmark international proved to be a major disappointment in his first season at Anfield, having been signed by former manager Roy Hodgson last summer.

Kenny Dalglish only used Poulsen on six occasions and the 31-year-old did not play again after the 1-0 defeat at Braga in the Europa League in early March.

This, combined with the summer signings of midfielders Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, has been taken as an indication of Liverpool's desire to offload the former Juventus man.

Travel

But Poulsen's representative, Jorn Bonnesen, claims he and his client are in the dark, as he told Onside.dk when asked if they knew about Liverpool's plans: "No, we do not.

"Now we wait and see what happens."

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has announced that, following the signings of Henderson and Adam, attention will now turn to selling unwanted members of the squad.

But Dalglish and his players are due to fly to the Far East on Sunday to begin a pre-season tour and Poulsen is expected to travel.

Liverpool announced earlier on Friday that teenage defender John Flanagan has signed a contract extension.

Jovanovic: The forward has also been linked with FC Brugge

Milan Jovanovic has revealed that he has met with Anderlecht officials to discuss his transfer from Liverpool.

The former Standard Liege forward has already been told that he can leave Anfield for free after just one year, with the Premier League club reportedly prepared to pay off his Â£60,000-a-week wages.

It is understood a January approach from Wolfsburg was turned down, but FC Brugge and Anderlecht are now thought to have offered Jovanovic a route out of Liverpool, where he has proved a failure under both Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish.

Rafa Benitez, who preceded Hodgson, agreed the deal to sign the Serbian, but he made just five appearances in the Premier League last season and all of those appearances came as a substitute.

It seems certain Jovanovic will leave this summer, particularly with director of football Damien Comolli confirming the club are streamlining their squad, and a return to Belgium is probable.

Interesting option

The 30-year-old has dined with members of the Anderlecht hierarchy and was impressed with what he heard as he considers the next move in his career.

Jovanovic told Sport/Foot Magazine: "I'm still under contract with Liverpool, but we already agreed that I can leave for free and that I can find myself a new club.

"And I can tell you that I already had a meeting with Anderlecht officials, it was quite interesting. I had dinner with the club president and director of sport.

"We will see what will happen, but Anderlecht remains an interesting option."

Earlier on Friday, Liverpool, who fly to the Far East on Sunday to begin a pre-season tour, confirmed that teenage defender John Flanagan has signed a contract extension.

Flanagan: Reports suggest the right-back has signed a four-year deal

Liverpool's teenage defender John Flanagan has been backed to continue his impressive development after it was confirmed that he has signed a contract extension.

The 18-year-old committed to new terms at the club's Melwood training ground on Friday lunchtime and it is reported that the deal is set for a four-year period.

After earned praise in Liverpool's Under-18 side earlier in the season, Flanagan, who was only 12 months into a previous three-year deal, made seven appearances for the senior team at the end of the last campaign.

Having already agreed an extension with Glen Johnson on Wednesday, director of football Damien Comolli is now delighted another right-back has committed his future.

The Frenchman told Liverpool's official website of Flanagan: "The first thing everyone will say is he deserves it because he did so well for us towards the end of last season.

"Flanno had a long time left on his current deal but we felt it was the right thing to do, to reward him for what he's done.

Progress

"His attitude is absolutely terrific. As you see him on the pitch - committed, dedicated, the intensity of his game - is what he's like off the pitch.

"He's very professional, he knows how to look after himself and who to listen to, and I think that's why he's improved so quickly."

Flanagan impressed for his age when thrown into the Premier League by manager Kenny Dalglish, but he also had difficult matches, particularly against Newcastle's Jonas Gutierrez.

And Comolli points out that there are still aspects of the Liverpool-born defender's game which require work.

"He's only 18-years-old and he's still got so much room for improvement in every area of his game - but he's already very good going forward, technically he's very sound," said Comolli.

"I'm sure in two years' time we'll talk about him having made even bigger progress. We're really looking forward to his development and seeing how he's going to do."

Liverpool leave for a pre-season tour of the Far East on Sunday, which will conclude a week in which they have signed Charlie Adam.

Adam: Arrives at Anfield on a long-term deal and wants to be successful with Liverpool

Liverpool have completed the signing of Charlie Adam from Blackpool and the midfielder has penned a long-term contract at Anfield.

The Reds have been in pursuit of the Scotland international since January and finally agreed a fee with the Seasiders earlier this week.

He then travelled to Merseyside to undergo a medical and has now finalised personal terms to become Kenny Dalglish's latest summer signing.

There has been plenty of speculation about the 25-year-old's future since he submitted a transfer request during the winter.

A number of clubs were interested but Blackpool fought hard to keep a player who was a star performer during their maiden Premier League campaign.

Having suffered relegation in May it looked only a matter of time before Adam left Bloomfield Road, and he is now looking forward to embarking on a new challenge with Liverpool.

"I am absolutely delighted to be here," Adam told the club's official website. "It has been a long process but now I can't wait to get started and hopefully this will be a successful period in my career and in the club's history.

"Liverpool is a massive club with terrific players and a terrific manager.

Looking to win

"I see this as the perfect development for me to come here, play with such wonderful players and hopefully help the team to win trophies, because that's the most important thing.

"I'm delighted to be able to walk out on the same pitch as some of the players here.

"There are good players at the club, top, top players who I want to learn from. I want to become a better player and hopefully bring something to the team.

"Hopefully we can have a successful period because it's been missing now for a couple of years.

"At the end of the day you get judged on trophies and as a footballer you want to win as many as you can.

Clichy: Rejected offers from Liverpool and Roma to join City

Gael Clichy has revealed he snubbed offers from Liverpool and Roma to join Manchester City.

The France international completed his Â£7million switch from Arsenal this week after signing a four-year contract with the Eastlands club.

The 25-year-old claims he had talks with Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli about a move to Anfield, while Roma also made him an attractive offer to move to Italy.

However, Clichy claims he made the decision to join City as he wants to continue playing in the UEFA Champions League and be competing for trophies.
Serious contacts

"With Liverpool contacts have been very serious," Clichy told L'Equipe. "I had phone calls with Damien Comolli, I knew him for a while.

"Indeed, there was AS Roma too, with a nice project and an exciting proposition. But I wanted to stay in Premier League.

"I like football here and the state of mind. Moreover, City offered me the opportunity to play again Champions League. I don't know if it will be the case during the next two seasons, but next term I will play in it."

Clichy also refuted suggestions he only joined City for financial reasons.

"Money? I would have earned almost the same at Liverpool. The defenders' wages don't evolve a lot," he added.

"I can understand people believe money has been a key factor. It is not the case.

Ambitious

"Manchester City is a big club, with a big team, an ambitious club which wants to shine in any competition.

"Was I fed up to not win any trophy at Arsenal? No. I don't know if City will win anything, and maybe Arsenal will win the title next term.

"But I believe City has better weapons.

"At Arsenal, the end was frustrating. We were in all competitions until March and after we lost the League Cup final, everything collapsed.

"The Manchester City offer came late, but I didn't think a lot."

Mata: Spain star has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool this summer

Valencia winger Juan Mata is wanted by clubs outside Spain, his father and agent has confirmed.

Mata is understood to be attracting strong interest from Arsenal, while Liverpool are also believed to be keen on the Spain international.

The talented winger, who helped his country to Under-21 glory in the European Championships this summer having previously been part of the senior squad which clinched World Cup glory in South Africa, is under contract until 2015.

But he has been tipped for a move away from the Mestalla this summer with Real Madrid and Barcelona both believed to be monitoring his situation.

Mata has admitted he is not looking to leave Los Che, who will be playing UEFA Champions League football next season, but it has now been revealed that tentative approaches have been made.

Mata's father, Juan senior, admitted that Valencia will now decide whether to part with the gifted youngster, who is currently on a break after his international commitments.

He is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror: "There have been calls from foreign clubs - but now the final decisions rests with Valencia and he is on his holidays."

Henry: Wants to stay at Anfield, but accepts club may have to move on.

Liverpool owner John W Henry has admitted the club may be forced to leave their historic Anfield home.

The Merseyside giants have been considering their options over whether to redevelop their existing home of 119 years, or relocate to a new purpose-built ground in Stanley Park.

Henry's Fenway Sports Group took control of the Reds in October last year and immediately embarked on a feasibility study to determine their next move.

And while the Liverpool supremo concedes he would prefer to stay at one of the iconic grounds in world football, that may not be possible.

Henry, in response to a question from a Reds supporter on Twitter, wrote: "Anfield would certainly be our first choice.

"But realities may dictate otherwise. So many obstacles..."

Naming rights

The costs which would be incurred by the club were they to press ahead with redeveloping Anfield are understood to be hugely prohibitive.

Therefore, a move to a new home in Stanley Park appears to be the most likely option, with funding partly provided by the sale of naming rights for the ground.

However, it has been reported that a decision from the Reds will have to be made swiftly, with Liverpool City Council's offer of a 999-year lease on the area earmarked only extended until September.

A move away from Anfield would certainly cause consternation among some supporters, but for the Reds to compete at the highest level at home and abroad they need to increase income from gate receipts, which is currently restricted by their 45,000 capacity.

Ince: Linked with possible loan switch to Blackpool

Skysports.com understands Blackpool are eyeing moves for Liverpool duo Tom Ince and Gerardo Bruna.

Blackpool are hoping to strike a deal for the pair after selling Charlie Adam to Liverpool earlier this week.

Seasiders boss Ian Holloway is keen to bolster his squad and he is exploring the prospect of taking Ince and Bruna on loan.

However, Blackpool could miss out on Ince as Fulham are hoping to lure the midfielder to Craven Cottage on a permanent deal.

Midfield duo Ince and Bruna have yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool's first team and are regulars in the reserves.

Argentine Bruna joined Liverpool from Real Madrid in the summer of 2007 and he is highly-rated within the corridors of Anfield.

Ince, who is the son of former Reds captain, Paul, is also highly-regarded by Liverpool's coaching staff and he enjoyed a spell on loan at Notts County last season alongside his dad.

Liverpool could be willing to loan out the duo so they can get some regular first-team experience under their belt and landing both players would be a coup for Blackpool.

Don't know, maybe they couldn't cope with his wage demands? Â£60,000 is a little steep for a striker who had a terrible season, be it surplus to requirements etc.

FSG are paying off his wages, though, as that was the stumbling block to getting rid of him. So anybody could take him now. Somebody call Steve Bruce.
