Liverpool have named former West Ham caretaker manager Kevin Keen as their new first-team coach.

The Reds have acted quickly to bolster their coaching team after assistant manager Sammy Lee left last week.

Keen worked with Steve Clarke, who joined Liverpool as first-team coach in January, when the Scot was assistant to Gianfranco Zola at West Ham.

Liverpool have not yet said if Clarke will take Lee's role or remain as a first-team coach.

    who is there from within?

    lets be frank and open.

    my views are:

    1. rafa sacked every "inside man", the only ones of note are the good work he did himsefl with youth coaches.

    2. said youth coaches are needed where they are.

    3. the sum total of our senior coaching development was ablett, lee, mcmahon... was john mcmahon and "insdier" i don't think so.

so to me appointing a guy of long standing reputation who subscribes to a good brand of football is absolutely fine. Was shankly and insider (and don't dare think i'm comparing the two men, just making the point about new blood)

Let me offer this... if steve clarke is moved to asst managaer to kenny dalglish and then succeeds him in say 3-5 years wouldn't that be continuity? wouldn't that be a good step?

finally by all means a hammann or hyppia could be brought in but they need to come in and learn the trade.

    All very well said.

Hyypia and Hamann could be great long term additions to the coaching staff and I would love them to get jobs some where in the LFC coaching set up. But I believe they have both taken or are in talks for other jobs.

Robbie Fowler in the set up to any one?
