Every one else in the league is beating them home and away, including WBA today at Anfield! Surely we must win this game and a defeat cannot be accepted?
Blackburn had lost their last FIVE games until they played us yesterday, I think that we can pretty much guess the outcome of next week's match don't you? TBH I honestly cannot see us getting another single point, I even think Villa will beat us fairly comfortably we look completely burned out. Hardly surprising though considering the effort the boys have put in this year.
I will be gutted if we do not beat Villa tbh, that has to be a lovely final flourish to the season and a nice goodbye to the fans to mark the end of the season. As for Liverpool, I think I will be disappointed if we do not beat them, solely based on their form but then again our form is so bloody erratic, lord alone knows what is going to happen
I agree, with the form blackburn were on we should have beaten them and we were just pure rubbish! Yes liverpool are poor in the league and we should beat them but as KIO says, we know exactly what will happen! We are burned out, and this is why we need big investment in the summer cause i dont think we will be as lucky next season of so many poor sides down near the bottom!
I cannot recall the last time I saw us lose at home on the last day of a season I admit we have drawn some (bloody Coventry!)
That sounds like Steve McClaren talking English with a Dutch accent - as dug out recently on a different thread
I don't think it's must win, remember it is Liverpool and although they are on an horrendous run they have players who can do teams damage. I don't really have too much expectations going into game, think it's going to be a tricky game. I think Villa could be difficult, depends on their situation. I agree we are burned out, and have had a quite an injury hit season especially in defence, due to that we do need to add depth to areas within the team, players who can come in and do a similar job to first team players. I don't think Ward and Barnett have been adequate cover this year. Plus if either Pilkington or Bennett are tired or injured it almost rules out playing with width because I find Surman more narrow than the other two which then means we swap to the diamond which I think has been worked out slightly. Holt and Morison have got goals this season, I love Jackson but he hasn't got enough goals this year unfortunately same applies to Wilbraham. We need another forward I feel, I think if Vaughan remains fit he will get goals. After seeing Wolves go down I would love us to bring in Fletcher, good on the ball, gets in good positions and has a great strike on him, he is an all rounder I think but he will be pricey. Apologies realised I went a little off topic, it was sort of in reply to the investment needed in summer comment.
i don't see it (Liverpool) as a must win. With arsenal up after that, it would be good going into that one with some kind of result. We will probably end up finishing 14th (can't see Villa overtaking us) i think we will beat Villa though - we will break that winning on the final day syndrome this season!
Let's face it Wolves were complete tosh and so were KooPR when we faced thm home and away. I cannot see either Reading or Southampton being push overs like they were. They play neat passing football like us and Swansea but have a bit of steel about them too. Going to be tough next year but I have no reason to doubt that Lambo won't pull a few more rabbits out of the hat yet!
If we play anything like we have against the other 'top teams' at home this season - apart from Spurs - we should beat them. I hear some of you thinking what about Man City; well I think we were totally outclassed that day but still played well.
The way things are going at Anfield it's more like a must win game for them.AS things stand anyone down to Stoke could overtake them.I don't know how the Scousers would feel about 14th place.
Good point Acle - after yesterday's reverse to the Baggies the pressure will be on Dalglish to get a result so I think it will be a must win game for Liverpool not us. If we play like we did against Everton and Man City (for 70 minutes - not the last 20) and avoid a Blackburn like performance we should be good for at least a point.
I can't go along with this burn out. We were the better team against Spurs, held an in form Everton, played well for 73 minutes against the prospective champions and were the better team in the 1st half against Blackburn until we resorted to big boot in the 2nd half. The players should be looking forward to playing the next three games. Its what they all said at the start, their dreams were coming true playing the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.
Absolutely agree! we are NOT burnt out, or getting found out. Tactics didn't work on Saturday and we lost to what is actually a fair team with decent players and needing the result badly, probably the worst time to be playing them and it was an away match too. I struggle to believe that anyone here would have thought we would be going into a game against Liverpool expecting us to win. I don't expect us to win, this is going to be a very hard match against a team stacked out with internationals. As has been pointed out above it's Liverpool that will be desperate for a result and playing out of their skins as a result. If we do get a result (and I believe we can, I just dont EXPECT us to) it will be a fabulous achievement.
