As long as Downing, Shelvey and Henderson play we won't progress up the league table. My reasons -simple. Downing. Can't beat the first man, no pace. Henderson. Good engine, but shot shy, and won't pass forwards, only side wards. Shelvey. His first touch is worse than Heskeys.
Shelvey is a young player that looks very promising, writing someone off so early is daft. Henderson the same he's been playing in the PL for a few years now and seems a good young player who is determined to learn.
apparently young players cant improve according to OP. Downing needs a double leg transplant. Nah, just not suited to the way we are playing. He needs yards to run into and targets to aim for, not Suarez v 3 CBs. Henderson will improve. It's one of the reasons he made the move up, to improve. Shelvey's visibly improving all of the time
I'm not going to argue against your comments regarding Downing because, quite simply, he's a lost cause now However... Henderson played very well against Stoke and should not have been taken off. He is young, has a good engine and would run through a brick wall for the club! He is incredibly talented and just needs guidance as to when and where to use those talents I can't quite believe you are criticising Shelvey after he just made his England debut! He is a very young lad but his ability is fantastic. He doesn't have the best work ethic in the team but his passing and shooting are superb! Giving a bit of coaching, his tackling will be very good too. Like Henderson, he needs to learn when and where to use his talents, he needs to understand the technical side of the game better. The lad is on his way to the top, he look like a natural replacement for Gerrard but hopefully Rodgers can have an impact and make him more of a team player than Gerrard ever was, i have no doubt that Brendan will make him a better player
Downing is a waste of spunk. I can't agree with you on the other two. Henderson is a work horse. Never like it when we stick him on the RW, which seems to have stopped under BR. When he's in the centre his passing is good but his positioning is brilliant, puts himself in any gaps that are left to allow others to get forward. Reminds me a lot of Didi in that respect. Jonjo looks class and has got a shot on him. I don't agree with the "as good as Gerrard" hype, but he is looking like he's going to do well for us.
Dumb thread. Apart from Downing I have good confidence in those players and am happy for them to play. They will both progress to be senior England men.
Of the three we will make a loss on Downing, he is a good player but is wasted on the right where he always cuts in, so predictable!! Henderson, good engine, will run for ever, but wasted on RW. In centre he looks so nervous, he doesn't take players on, not sure what his best position is. Shelvey. I know he's only 20, but his first touch is rubbish, also he doesn't run past players. I have heard he had a good shot, but his goal to game ratio doesn't reflect that. Genuine Liverpool fan, appreciate your comments. Ps I think Allen is quality
I prefer Downing on the right. He doesnt always cut in. Remember his assist for Shelvey against Udinese. That was one f his LFC bright moments.
henderson = lucas mark ii.... will be vital for england i nfuture years shevely fancies himself a bit too much for me, he is a lite (very lite) version of gerrard but hasn't got the engine.. can be his own man but needs to settle down and play football and not get carried away with the europa which after all isn't as high a standard as the prem or we would not field a second team in it. downing is just a negative weak minded player who i've no time for at all at this point. no time at all.
Really I see as the midfield as the players who make up the middle three in our 4,3,3. Downing tends to go in the front three. Our midfield is Lucas, Henderson, Allen, Sahin, Gerrard, Shelvey and possibly Suso. Downing counts to me as part of our limited forward line. Our midfield is good. Top 4 quality once all are fit, gelled and settled.

Shelvey is one for the future and has the potential to improve as Lucas did. I want to apply that logic to Henderson as well but I don't see enough in him to believe he could become anything more than a squad player. Downing's a goner
Hendo us much more than a sideways passer and I too think he could be Lucas mkII but I reckon he will be Allen's understudy in Rodgers' plans. The Allen comment is closer to the truth but his pass success rate is a lot higher too.
YES, Maybe, and GOD NO. Despite threads on the scum board and such like, I think Shelvey is ready for our team already. He has a much greater presence than Gerrard, who should be saved for the bench.
