Liverpool have made a move for Udinese defender Cristian Zapata, the player has revealed.

Sky Sports reports that the Colombian has announced he is close to completing a switch to the Reds.

He is one of Serie A's top-rated defenders and has been pivotal in securing Champions League qualification for his current club.

But back in South America ahead of the Copa America, he has revealed he is ready to quit Italy.

The 24-year-old claims that Liverpool and Bayern Munich are both attempting to soon him, and that a move to Anfield is the likeliest outcome.

He told La FM, he said: "I do not know what to say, I can say that I am very close to Liverpool.

"At the end of the Copa America, we will see what happens with my future.

"I have gained experience, but the time has come for me to make the jump to a big team."

Zapata can play anywhere across the back four, although centre-back is considered his strongest position.

An Udinese player for four seasons, he has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal. He has two years remaining on his current deal with the Italian side.

    Udinese 152 (255)

Particularly impressed he's managed to score 255 goals in 152 appearances. I knew the Italian league was easier... but that's taking the piss.

If we're looking to sign Zapata does that mean Agger is on his way out? There have been rumours Kenny wants to sell him on due to his injuries, but I'm not sure If I think he will...

Is he is not a free-scoring centre back? I'll settle for Surgical Aguero then from Athletic Bilbao.
