Liverpool will not be allowed to sign a goalkeeper on loan for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Everton.

With Pepe Reina and Doni serving bans, manager Kenny Dalglish had hoped to bring in cover for third-choice Brad Jones.

But Premier League regulations only allow a move when injury, rather than suspension, affects a squad.

The untried Danny Ward, 18, or 17-year-old Tyrell Belford are likely to be named as substitute at Wembley.

Reina is serving a three-match ban for his dismissal in the defeat by Newcastle United, while reserve goalkeeper Doni is banned after being sent off in Tuesday's 3-2 win at Blackburn Rovers.

Dalglish insisted he had "no problem whatsoever" with the prospect of selecting Australian Jones, who has made just three appearances since signing from Middlesbrough in August 2010.

This does suck, I mean who will be cover for Jones if he then gets sent off, reserve keeper? <doh>

That's true, and if he can get the sun to reflect off his teeth he may be impossible to score against <ok> <laugh>

I think Jones is a decent keeper who can do everything (shot-stopping, distribution, handling, and other football manager stats) to a good level. Most of the difference between a good keeper and a world-class keeper is consistency anyway really (the ability to make the good save when you've been sat on your arse for 70 minutes watching the game with nothing to do), its not like an outfield player. He's bound to be well up for the semi-final and focused so i can't see his concentration being a problem, the only issue was likely to be his confidence but he started by saving a penalty so maybe he's happy :)

Plus i think its fair that the FA don't allow it for suspensions, its only right that teams should suffer for having players sent off and i'd say that even if it was Newcastle who were at the receiving end.

  8. Plus, if teams could get someone to cover suspensions then we could see players deliberately getting banned so that another player can join and make the squad stronger.

You've recalled Gulasci from Hull, I hope you don't need to use him, he's hopeless.
