It has been reported this morning, in daily star that Liverpool are looking to buy him in the summer, acknowledging it will take one hell of a fight off saints to catch his signature, the chances of this happening in my opinion are absolutely none and we would be stupid to sell as he's looked quality under poche, and will only improve for next few seasons. Thoughts?
Two words in your post really lost the credibility of the story: "Star" was one, the other was "Daily"
Pretty sure there will be a lot of tabloid talk about so called big clubs buying our players. They have the view that we are a small club, with small finances, overachieving. For some smaller clubs this would make sense. Under the Don we have never been a club aiming for the premiership, he has always wanted us to achieve more. The only way players will leave is if its a fantastic financial deal for the club and we can replace them with a better player. We are no longer a club that needs to sell to survive. That is awesome
Odd isn't it, one minute "one goal" is a waste of money, now possibly a prize asset! http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/307239/
The same skills that make Rodriguez a target are the very ones that will mean Cortese won't let him go. The sacking of Adkins has already shown that Nicola doesn't do consolidation, he goes for the meteoric. As lostinmk said, would have to be a damn good reason before one of our main players is sold.
Unless they're expecting Suarez to be off. Not that Sturridge/Rodriguez would be a sensible pairing, but that sort of scenario would leave Liverpool needing a forward and with money to burn...so, £25m up-front sounds about right.
This is bullshit. They couldn't get him anyway unless they were willing to spend well over £10mill on him, which they wouldn't.
I was never a JayRod doubter but he's grown on me a lot recently his work rate is really endearing. However Liverpool's track record for overpaying for British youngsters is pretty well known and we could probably get a stupid amount of money out of them. Having said that the papers are probably just realising Liverpool want young british players and linking them with whomever is inform.
There's no way NC would sell a player we've just bought and is really starting to show their potential. I think J Rod has been the most improved player of late. £7m starting to look a good purchase.
Brendan Rodgers must've been impressed with the way that Jay destroyed his defence last month but that doesn't mean that this would be a good move for either the player or the club. I can't see Liverpool giving Jay the central striking role that he is playing here and it would be likely that he would be used as an impact sub there. Jay has flourished since having a run in the starting XI and is developing all the time, Saints are the best team for him to be at at this point of his career. It would make little sense for The Don to 'cash in' less than a season after buying him while his stock is rising with each match.
So we are now in April and already Clyne, Shaw, Ramirez, Lambert and Rodriquez have supposedly drawn the interest of other clubs. There may have been even more, I just forget. Has there been interest in Puncheon and Lallana too?
