Liverpool consider move for Newcastle forward Hatem Ben Arfa
    • Frenchman could be used in exchange deal for Andy Carroll
    • Newcastle interested in re-signing £35m England striker

Brendan Rodgers will consider a move for Hatem Ben Arfa this summer as the Liverpool manager looks to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding the midfielder's future at Newcastle United and the prospect of Andy Carroll returning to St James' Park.

Rodgers is a firm admirer of the France international, who has made no secret of his desire to play for Paris Saint-Germain. Ben Arfa did not push for a move in the January transfer window, as he recovers from a hamstring injury, but Newcastle's resolve to keep the player is likely to be tested at the end of the season. The 25-year-old has a contract at Newcastle to the summer of 2015 and would command a sizeable fee.

Ben Arfa is older than all the signings Liverpool have made since Rodgers became manager and Newcastle's asking price could prove an obstacle, but their interest in re-signing Carroll could work to the Anfield club's advantage and an exchange deal.

West Ham United have an option to buy Carroll at the end of his season-long loan but Liverpool dropped their demand for a guaranteed move to remove the £35m striker from their wage bill in August.

I can see this happening you know.. We have depth in the wings and Ben Arfa is one of our most highly-valued players, I hope MA and DL aren't this stupid, but Benny is one of the more likely exits that could happen this summer, not just to Liverpool but to anyone willing to pay a high price!

    I bloody hope not though!

Would rather hang on to HBA, be nice if we could add AC to the squad but not good enough to lose HBA for him.

Lets do a 3 team deal. Like what the Americans sports teams do.

    Newcastle:
    Get Mandy
    Get 20m
    Out HBA

    Liverpool:
    Get Gameiro
    Pays 5 million
    Loses Mandy

    PSG:
    Gets HBA
    Pays 15 million
    Loses Gameiro

    Also, just had another thought,

What happens if we get Mandy, and they cough up another 35 million?

It'll essentially make HBA a 70 million transfer LOL

If I were Mike I'd say.... look Liverpool... Mandy is worthless really to you... what we'll do is accept £20m + Carroll to take him off your hands... or a straight £21m- you're choice.

    This. HBA every time.

First thought when I saw this article was 'so now Demba Ba has gone the press are looking for the next likely player they can start running stories about'

In all seriousness I'm convinced Mike will only sell our star players for seriously silly money. Whilst Liverpool are capable of paying daft money I think they have learnt their lesson. I also think that, given Harry isn't doing his car window **** stirring thing again we can rely on Liverpool and Rodgers to have a lot more class so no tapping up should be evndent either.

The one thing about Mike that we would never doubt is that he would never sell himself short. Given his many problems , the one thing we'd never worry is him losing out on a deal for us. He'd rather haggle his way and lowball teams to the extent that we have to rely on Shola as our sole striker for half a season, or Willo as first choice CB for half a season, than to lose out on potential transfer fees for our big players!

Any transfer story released this soon after a transfer window has ended is almost certainly cacka fabricated by a desperate journalist who has gotten withdrawal symtoms from the January madness and has responded to his own needs in a manner resemblant of a 12 year old on twitter. Step forward Andy Hunter and take a bow.

Why would this happen, I can see him leaving to a top team, Liverpool Are slighyly ahead marginally at best.
Someone mentioned Liverpool had the funds make a crazy bid which is not true
Remember in the summer they failed to sign Dempsey for under 10m As they had to sell
    Before hand.
Liverpools board have been hit before with daft signings so unless they sell someone like Suarez I can't see it happening.
Gerrard was slating the clubs transfer ethos of buying cheap so where does hba fit into this.
And finally think about liverpools footballing methods its all one touch pass and move which Hba can do but he is all about taking on players which might not work look at joe cole (a poor mans htb these days) very similar in style but did not fit in.
Can you see fat mike selling one of his top potential money earners by helping Liverpool soffen the blow for their cock up in the Carroll signing no

It's lazy journalism its either arsenal - french base
    Liverpool -Carroll potential psg- obviously

Us? Swap a frenchman for an Englishman? Never in a million years. In all seriousness though, It only seems to be Pardew who actually wants Carroll back. I doubt MA really cares either way, so I can't see HBA being offered as part as a deal. Ashley will know exactly how much he is worth and it is about 3x what Carroll is worth

MA wouldn't be prepared to pay Carroll what he's getting now, so that might be a stumbling block.

Would be monumentally pissed off if we swap HBA for that crock.

    Don't think it's happening though.
