Liverpool have been warned to watch out for a revenge attack from Andy Carroll.

The Reds face the giant striker on Sunday for the first time since he sealed a £15m move to West Ham United in the summer.

Carroll produced a man-of-the-match display at Sunderland on Monday night as the Upton Park side moved closer to safety with a 2-1 win.

League leaders Liverpool go to East London this weekend with Hammers captain Kevin Nolan determined to “spoil their party”.

Sam Allardyce says a fit-again Carroll is ready to win back his place in the England squad and believes that if he keeps scoring between now and the end of the season then he stands a good chance of landing a place on the plane to Brazil.

Carroll bulleted a header past Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone after just nine minutes at the Stadium of Light before providing the assist for Mohamed Diame’s second-half strike.

And after recovering from the knee injury that has blighted his season, the 25-year-old will be ready to prove a point to his old club this weekend.

Asked if there was enough football left for the frontman to force his way into Roy Hodgson’s England squad, Allardyce said: “I think there is.

“There are six games to go and I think if he continues to score, if he scores anything like he did last season – he scored eight in the last 12, I think – if he gets another two or three or four goals, I think it will hopefully be difficult for Roy to ignore him.

“There are not a lot of them type of strikers today, unfortunately. I used to play against them every week, Andy Carrolls, when I played many years ago. There used to be one in every side. But there’s a quality with the size and the stature of the man. It’s not just a heading ability, it’s an all-round quality that he has.

“He’s quicker than he looks, some good hold-up play off the chest at times, takes the ball with his feet, he’s got a terrific shot on him.

“He’s superb in the air and he’s young, so hopefully he keeps on not growing stature-wise, but growing in terms of his experience.” and his ability to stay fit and be an even better player than he already is.”

Carroll will fancy his chances of getting his third goal of the season with Liverpool having conceded 11 headed goals this term.

But the Reds backline has kept three clean sheets in their last five games.

i am expecting an ex player to spoil it at some point, not sure it will be Carroll though, my money if i bet would be on Torres.

just have to keep doing what we have been doing, and outscoring the opo :) what will be, will be.

Carroll is a striker and despite his reputation is probably better than most. However, he is no better than Ricky Lambert. It's purely the Liverpool connection.

The problem is in open play, how will West Ham make chances for Andy Carroll?

Our biggest worry is from Set pieces, we need Skrtel to man mark him and grab and mess Carroll up at each set piece.

I'm not that worried about Carroll. I'm more concerned that Fat Sam will be sharpening his defence's boots. Wonder if Nolan will get sent off again?

  8. People worry about Carroll's ariel threat but I don't see it. From what i remember of him being here, he got his head on things but it was completely random where the ball ended up, he seemed to have no control over the direction he headed it. What we need to avoid is the early cross that gets the ball inbetween the defenders and keeper, Andy loves that and he is at his must dangerous in this position. I have trust in Skrtel in this area too though.

Also shouldn't let him have space for a twenty yard effort either, we all know how he loves to back a beaut from distance against a former employee!

Mweh, do to him what they all did to him while in our shirt. Few early nudges and he''ll spend the match on his arse waving at the ref.

If Andy Carroll is too excited he's going to commit terrible foul, possibly sent off. He wants to go to Brazil, I do not see at whose expense at the moment.<ok>

Carroll is a donkey. Plain and simple. Poor movement, no pace, no intelligence. Just sh*te.

Cut out the long balls/crosses and he won't offer anything.

Downing could be a problem though - on his day, he can be decent. Luckily, it rarely is his day but it could be this weekend.

Manchester United were able to keep Andy Carroll quite, I cannot see why we cannot do the same.<ok>

To be fair, if Johnson and Sterling play well, Downing will be forced to spend most of his time helping out his FB so, in theory, have less chance of hurting us at the other end of the pitch..
I wish all our ex-players the best of luck, I just wish we have move and can pinch a win...
