LIVERPOOL FC’S head of fitness and conditioning Darren Burgess has stepped down after two years at the club.

The Australian has been an integral part of the backroom staff at Melwood since he joined the Reds from his role with the Socceroos after the 2010 World Cup.

Burgess, who worked under managers Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers, is preparing to return Down Under with his family and is considering offers from a number of Aussie Rules clubs.

“Brendan (Rodgers) wanted to bring in some staff from Swansea, and Brendan has been fantastic, but my role has changed and its not really worth living on the other side of the world for,” he said.

“I’ve had AFL clubs asking me if I was interested for the last couple of years now. The sports science side of things in AFL is world class - you don’t get a better set up.

“It’s tough because I worked for 15 years to try and get into the EPL, it was my dream. But I leave thinking it’s the right thing for my family.”

Burgess was a popular figure at Melwood and admits he relished working with the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard.

“Luis Suarez’s training intensity is unlike anything I’ve ever worked with in any code. He just cannot lose,” he added.

“Sometimes, as a coach, you have to make up numbers in training, and this happened in the early days when he arrived, because he was serving a suspension from his days in Holland.

“He booted the hell out of me. I looked angrily at him, but he just gesticulated as if to say ‘when you are on the field, you are one of us’”

“As for Stevie, I’ve never seen anyone strike a ball as well in any code of football. When the big clubs play at Anfield, the opposition players all want Stevie’s jersey.”

    Codes?

Rodgers changed his job role. He did not like his new job role so he has chosen to move on to a new job that he will be happier with.

Codes merely is how some people refer to different forms of ball games, like rugby union or league or aussie rules... in short gerrard strikes the ball better than anyone in any of the different sports he's worked in.

Gets a bit worrying this... having so many ex Swansea staff. I mean, they never even had a training ground of their own, yet now they are all at Liverpool, with state of the art equipment and **** all experience of working with it all.

After watching Being Liverpool, hands up all those who think Colin Pascoe only got the job, because his son is going out with Rodger's daughter.....

A few Swansea fans didn't have any positive things to say about Pascoe whilst most were complimenting the likes of Rodgers and Allen.

Whilst I appreciate the manager needs people who he trusts at the club, I would hope they are top class professionals in their respective fields. We saw the benefits to our defence with a man like Steve Clarke in.

It was the case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Steve's gone on to do a good job with the baggies, but it was stupid that he was sacked. Rodgers should have seen the benefits of working with him.

Again with the goalkeeping coach, they brought the wrong one back, and look at how we are now paying for that screw-up.

Was quite surprised considering that the two worked together at Chelsea. But I suppose Rodgers prefers Pascoe for whatever reason.

I think Kenny was looking at bringing back Xavi Valero to work with Reina but not sure if that's completely dead now.

I would guess Clarke considers himself on a par with Rodgers and whilst he was happy to be number two to Dalglish, I can't see him or Rodgers being comfortable with him in a subordinate role.

He is still at the club but he is leaving - I think he is working his notice at the minute.

Pep Segura has gone, it must mean that the former Manchester City scouts have started work.
