Just as well they ain't going to qualify!
Of course they don't need the UCL to break even this season - they've booked a ã50 million profit from selling Torres. But, as with the Ronaldo sale, it'll be interesting to see what their revenues would have been like excluding player sales...
luvgonzo on the Liverpool boards finds this lack of ambition and European football reassuring. Total madness.
I dunno, I think a lot of them recognise how threadbare their squad is and how much improvement they need to make. I think they'd rather have the club fully focused on getting back into the top 4, rather than doing what they did last season and get distracted by the Europa League and end up finishing in a lower position. But of course a lot depends on how much their owners have to invest in biying players to help them cope with the lost revenue from the CL, and whether they can get back into Europe before the FFP rules come into play and FSG can't invest any more capital in players. To be fair, it's probably reassuring to know that they won't financially implode if they don't get into Europe - I think that's what the owner's trying to say. Particularly given how much investment they are going to need to get back into the CL...
I want nothing more than to get into Europe what I find reassuring is that the owners have a long term plan and that 1 set back is not going to change that. They could panic and spend a lot of money to get back into the CL next season and if that goes wrong we would be in a far worse state. The long term plan is to build a team that can win the league and challenge for CL every season, this isnt going to happen overnight we need to be patient.
Thats what we all want! I find it's best to shut up and hope other than setting yourself up for a fall.
If Liverpool don't get into Europe, quick, it will not get the quality players they need to compete and the ones they have will want off. We can hope
If we don't improve there is always going to be a Torres, however we don't buy players who are established world class players but buy them at the right time and develop them into world class players Torres, Alonso, Masch these types of players are always going to want to come to Liverpool as they will play. This is the same as Man Utd and where Chelsea and Man City differ. If we don't improve the likes of Suarez, Reina and Agger will want to move on at some point though. But I don't see that happening under the new owners. That may be the rose coloured spectacles but I don't think so.
Loserpool might not need Europe but it seems they need the help of some American netball player ( BBC Sports front page news ) !!!!!!!
