We've ALL been ****e this season. It's been the worst prem season for yonks and the proof is in the fact that English teams have failed in Europe this term.

If they win the fa cup then it won't be all bad for them would it? If you not in the top 4 then you may as well finish 15th

I agree that United being top is a false position because there have been games this season where a more composed opponent could have beaten them. Teams who have come out and had a go at them have done well, or gone close.

But what would you prefer, a league like Spain wher the top 2 are ALWAYS way ahead of everyone else, or a league where every game is competitive? The unpredicatability arises from the top teams having periods where they suffer bad form. Also, look at their points totals - chances are they'll finish with >= 85 points, which is an imprressive total.

I think what this season has highlighted is the lack of investment by the big teams in replacing aging defenders, or in United case, trying to bring on younsgters like Smalling/Jones to replace Rio etc.

As far as Europe, you could look at Chelsea and say that our 5th placed team were strong against the best in Spain. Barca and Real skew the Spanish league because of their financial power, but they also have a similar effect in Europe.

I just wish we could have regular 3 -4 horse race championships, but it seems to be some natural law which dictates that come the tai end of teh season there are only 2 teams left to fight it out.

Well, we dominated them as much as we dominated you at Anfield and lost...that was his point. Doesn't mean we are doing "great". And I didn't realise he was all Liverpool fans. <doh>

I think the results in Euro competition says it all. We may have failed in the PL this year --due to the boycott of AVB! But too many foreign countries have learned lessons and are doing things about it! We just happen to have quality experienced Euro soldiers at SB who refuse to be written off! It wont go on forever!

You are 100% right. No team has been consistent enough to really make a mark in all the comps. In our case, we have been pretty dreadful in the PL and the Carling, OK in the FA, mediocre, until the last 3 games in the CL. The others have had similar seasons , but in different ways.
They may have been smarter than us in realising they didn't have the squad to do well in everything, and so picked the comps that were most important. Lessons for next season.

AVB's inexperience and arrogance didn't help either. Even when Robbie took over the only difference was the fighting spirit that was totally missing under AVB but the last couple of games confidence seems to be returning and the football has been marginally better. The main thing I feel is that the players are now doing their jobs properly (Kalou, Bosingwa & Malouda excepted)!
