Liverpool have told Blackpool they will not pay any more than £8 million for midfielder Charlie Adam. The 25-year-old Scot has been linked with a move away from Bloomfield Road and was the subject of a £6 million bid from Liverpool on the final day of the January transfer window. Meanwhile, former Blackpool legend Jimmy Armfield says Adam has got what it takes to play in the Premier League and he isn’t surprised that the Seasiders’ skipper wants a quick return to the top flight. “I think he’s good enough to play for the top four,” Armfield told the Blackpool Gazette. “I think he’s proved that he can play in the top level.” He added: “Charlie’s been very good for Blackpool, but Blackpool’s been very good for Charlie too. There’s no point staying if you aren’t happy though. It’s hard enough playing, without being unhappy as well. “Charlie will have aspirations of playing in the Premier League after doing so well there last season. Now Blackpool are in the Championship, I can’t blame him for wanting to play in the top flight.” Liverpool are also being linked today with an £18 million bid for Villareal playmaker Santi Cazorla. The Reds are said to be mulling over a bid for the 26-year-old who has 33 caps for Spain. They are also being linked with Marseille’s Ghana international midfielder Andre Ayew and AIK Stockhom’s young Swedish defender Alexander Milosevic.
I think we are well stocked in midfield anyway. We've got Gerrard, Henderson, Shelvey, Meireles, Lucas, Aquilani (Even though we will probably sell him) and Spearing in the middle. I personally feel that we don't need him.
Kenny wants him and likes him, however he won't be stiffed,Don't think for one minute that Kenny and DC have just one target for each of the positions they want to strengthen in,I read somewhere they have at least 3 for each position and each are as good as each other.
I can sort of see the logic of signing him - we don't really have any long range passer's (unless you count Aquilani) in our team - when we had Alonso and Riera I lost count of the amount of long diagonal balls that went to Riera and Kuyt but I just think that there are better options than Charlie Adam - fair enough he's a dead ball specialist as well but he's not very mobile and isn't a great tackler either.
If Aquilani goes I wouldn't mind us signing Adam, although I would only like to see him as a squad player, which he'd be unlikely to settle for. £8m seems a pretty good deal for a decent player, not buying into all the media hype, but I don't want to take anything away from him, he still is a cracking player. On the other hand, wouldn't mind us waiting 6 months, signing him on a pre-contract deal, seeing him arrive for free next summer, would love to see Ian Holloway's face, he really made himself look like a clown when he tried to provoke a bidding war.
