Are we finally shedding this image?? We have a brand new stand on the way so should lose the stigma of a 3 sided stadium. We are being predicted as challengers for promotion rather than a relegation fight each year. We have signed world class players who have just returned from the World cup with rave reviews from commentators.

Is it just me, or is it a good time to be a Watford fan?

For half a century I have thought it's good to be a Watford fan. :)

But I know what you mean - the 'little old Watford' image has, to a certain extent, been shed.

I have always seen Watford as the biggest club in Hertfordshire :emoticon-0100-smile

QPR is too far South and Luton is too far North

I am not sure that we can ever lose the tag, but what the hell. Yes we have been very lucky to have fallen into the hands of the Pozzo family who have done a great deal to improve the image of the ground, provided us with £M's of talent, yet kept the family club atmosphere going. What remains to be seen now, is can our chief coach weld the talent at his disposal into a winning team? I like the guy and hope he can succeed, but I think that remains to be seen. I really hope he is the man, but don't think that yet he has proved himself.

We will always be Little old Watford. But we are not looked as a small club in our current league . Once we go up we will always be a small club in the pl. The Pozzo could be the most important thing to happen to Watford in the history of the club . We must never forget that they have been club owners for over 25 years and if they need to send any star player or players from Watford to Itay to save them from relegation then they will not think twice ,even if it means we go down. And if our current chief coach cannot get us promoted he will be asked to move on.

Your views are supported by a great deal of evidence Dan. Personally i like to remain pessimisstic whilst, of course, being 100% behind the team. I just always get concerned that when we start to think things are changing we suddenly implode.

All of that said, it is a good time to be a fan and we should jsutt enjoy the ride and hope it lasts

I think we will always be 'little old Watford', even if we get promoted and establish ourselves up there.

I think considering the size of the town and the other teams we have local (the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs), teams like ourselves, along with the likes of QPR and L*t*n, we will only ever be 'punching above our weight' if we were to be a permanent fixture in the Prem.

To be honest though... I don't care! Hopefully we will do our talking on the pitch, and won't be a soft touch in the transfer market!

You have summed things up perfectly OFH, whatever this season has instore for us we are indeed in probably the safest hands we have ever been in other than Elton's early years. Its a golden time to be supporting Watford and for those of us that go back over several decades we WILL always be little old Watford.

There are bigger sharks around us, mostly in London. We may have just changed from a Roach to a Perch, a bit more bit but never going to make any big waves.

I'm not sure I like that description - a Perch swims along the muddy bottom of the river and eats all the crap and pops out what they don't want! :)

"Eyewitness Brad Tapper, who had been at the beach at the weekend with his family, told the Western Australian newspaper that the shark returned to shore despite efforts from some beachgoers to tow it out to sea."

You have to wonder about some people...

I don't think I could support a big, fashionable club.
I know it sounds a bit soft, but for the last ten years or so before I stopped being able to get to games, I used to go on my own, and as I approached the ground, either up past the allotments or down from Cassiobury, I would get a buzz from joining the increasing flow of yellow shirts, and think 'this is my family'.

I get the same buzz from this forum now.

    Altogether now- "Aaahhh!!"

I know what you mean GG. I actually enjoy going to a game on my own. Don't get the chance these days as either Mme or daughters partner wants to come. Last season I bought four tickets so we all could go, it was my daughters first ever visit and her other half is a sometimes QPR fan. What do they think of it? As a member of the WFC family you can look at things through yellow tinted specs and others don't see what you do. Following things on here you have background about how things have arrived at this point. A casual doesn't have that knowledge and only looks at the game in front of them.

Thinking about it, it is that underdog mentality that we need, if we are little old Watford or not. That's what we had when we've gone up. Can we recapture that mentality to add to the obvious talent we have? I reckon that then we'd be a force.
