Based on the odds at this current time 10:30am today. This is the order that oddschecker have from the favourites onwards. Steve Cotterill (Available: Former Bristol City boss and sacked as Birmingham manager March 2018) Michael Flynn (Newport manager: Not managed another club worthy of note) Ian Holloway (Available: Currently a columnist for our local rag) Graham Coughlan (Our current interim manager: Not managed before) Paul Hurst (Available: Former Grimsby/Shrewbury boss and sacked as Ipswich manager October 2018) Marcus Stewart (Just asked to be released from us so no chance him coming back) Lee Mansell (Our current academy coach: Not managed before) Jerry Gill (Bath manager: Before Bath he only managed Weymouth) Graham Westley (Available: Sacked as Barnet boss March 2018 after 2 months in the job) Tim Sherwood (Available: Sacked as Villa boss 2015 and since was Director of Football at Swindon until 2017 ) Michael Appleton (Available: Joined Leicester as Assistant manager in June 2017 and left June 2018 after new manager arrived) Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: (Available: Former Burton/QPR boss and sacked as Northampton manager April 2018) Mark Warburton (Available: Former Brentford/Rangers boss and sacked as Forest manager December 2017) Brian McDermott (Available: Former Reading/Leeds boss and sacked in 2nd spell at Reading May 2016) Darren Ferguson (Available: Former Preston/Peterboro boss and resigned from Doncaster June 2018) Phil Brown (Available: Former Hull/Southend boss and sacked as Swindon manager November 2018) Chris Hargreaves (Our current U23 manager) There are other named after Hargreaves but they are long shots with odds like Harry Redknapp and Chris Coleman for example.
If they are not promoting from within Then Paul Hurst would be my choice, but if they are promoting from within then any of Coughlan, Hargreaves or Mansell, But please not Cotterill
If it’s Cotterill then I fear for attendances, a horrible individual who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near our fans after what he said about us.
I have a feeling our cheapskates will look within the club. Top of my list would be Mansell. He comes with his current salary and would cost them little more. He has the club in his blood. Would be accepted by the fans. Or rather wouldn't get personal stick from them, even though he is inexperienced. Please let us not be lumbered with any of the crap journeymen in the 'odds list'
According to the Telegraph Peter Crouch is looking to go into management would help with a big guy upfront and also Robbie Fowler is applying for the position both untried and no failures as managers could be worth lookinginto
Issue is, Paul Trollope was sacked and I think that was wrong as I think he would have kept us up. We ended up with Stuart Campbell who had no experience and we got relegated. DC is gone and I think that was wrong as I believe he would have kept us up. If we end up with Mansell, I fear the same would happen as it did with Campbell.
Odds have changed a bit. Some new names have entered in to the list. Up to date list from Sunday 9pm. Michael Flynn is now number 1 favourite. 2. Steve Cotterill 3. Gary Waddock (new entry) Current manager of Aldershot since 2016 (his 2nd spell with them). 4. Ian Holloway 5. Robbie Fowler (new entry) Never managed before apart from head coach role in Thailand in 2011/12 season. 6. Marcus Stewart 7. Paul Hurst 8. Ben Garner (new entry) Never managed before. Been a coach for Palace then WBA until he departed December 2017. Done nothing since. 9. Alan Archibald (new entry) Sacked from Partick Thistle October 2018. Was relegated from Scotish Prem last season and had a bad start this season. 10. Graham Coughlan
Some of those managers have had more clubs than Tiger Woods please can we go for untried at least the ideas would be new GC seemed to have them playing with enthusiasm on Saturday. My first choice would be reinstate DC and back him, then Paul Hurst and then GC Chris Hargreaves or Lee Mansell According to hashtag twitter Andy Tilson was seen in the company of Hamer and Al Quadi at the Sunderland match with the suggestion he was in the frame for the position
Hurst, Archibald, Cottrell and Ollie would get my vote for a shortlist, and if Coughlan's done well and is interested he could be in with a shout. Flynn is light on experience, Fowler has almost no experience, Waddock's had his chances in the league.
I don't understand Michael Flynn!! He has pretty much no more experience than Mansell. At least Lee watches the side every game. And Flynn means they will have to put their hands in their pockets!!
Top 10 as of 3.55pm today: Michael Flynn Steve Cotterill Gary Waddock Alan Archibald Ian Holloway Graham Coughlan Robbie Fowler Marcus Stewart Paul Hurst Owen Coyle (New entry)
Gary Waddock has already distanced himself from the job, don't want Steve Cotterill and as Marcus Stewart asked to be released from his contract I can't see him being interested. Steve Archibald played at a good standard and appeared to be well thought of at his last club. Delete Cotterill and put in Mansell wouldn't be a bad list Guessing whoever gets the job won't be in place for Saturdays match
He was interviewed on 5 Live today and sounds like he's going to wait for the right opportunity, which probably won't be us. But you never know.
Can't understand the wishful thinking. We are owned by financial wheeler dealers. DC is gone. They have to recover his exit money. Easiest option! Promote from within the club. As an inexperienced person now in place, then offer them a carrot inducement (in lieu of salary increase) which can be withdrawn later. Replace that resultant vacancy with an enthusiastic low paid employee. Again the carrot syndrome is offered. Probably a cleaner or ex turnstile attendant. Bear in mind they are good at offering carrots. But nobody gets to enjoy them!!!
Somebody mentioned today at the match that Paul Hurst is a good friend of DCs and probably for that reason not take the job
