Ranting about the country's "long ball culture" - what long ball culture? http://www.newstatesman.com/2013/10...idelines-are-killing-their-kids-love-football
The one he probably thrived on ironically enough. Get the ball up to the goal scorer up front which Big ears was.
I think that he has a point - from my experience of coaching kids, parents should be allowed nowhere near the pitch when their kids are playing as their expectations and the coach's are generally polar opposites. I do find it hard to believe what he says about pitch & goal sizes though - thought that all changed years ago, but possibly not in England? One thing I'd add is that the standard of coaching the kids receive - up here at least - is fairly abysmal. There seems to be a belief that young kids will automatically learn the basic skills of shooting, passing, heading, dribbling and trapping simply by being asked to do it - without actually being shown how. Very few learn by osmosis.
