At the moment I would pick the following:

    Flitney
    Fish
    Lawrence
    Frampton
    Martin
    Whelpdale
    Rooney
    Lee
    Montrose
    Birchall
    Kedwell

Subs: Hawkes, Richards, Payne (J), Weston, Spiller, Fuller, Oli

think i'd go for that shouting men, would rather have king than richards or fuller on bench though if he could last the pace!

top 2 and back 4 pretty much pick themselves as long as player perform to expectation and injuries permitting as for the midfield god help anyone who tries to pick the bones of that apart. whatever happens we will have a very strong bench for the midfield and to an extent defence. for me its got to be 4-1-2-1 diamond

    Flitney

Fish (so far proving better and more popular than fuller)
Richards (havent seen Frampton play yet so cant put him in although on reputation this is his spot)
    Lawrence
    Martin

Lee (bit of bite in the midfield and can get forward with late surging runs to help out)

    Whelpdale
Spiller (both players that will come and join the attack and with a great work ethic for chasing back)

Rooney (preseason form is great again so must be pushing for a start opening day)

    Birchall
    Kedwell

if you go 4-4-2 then swap spiller out for weston/montrose (if he can prove himself going forward)

as for the bench it pretty much picks itself given the players not included - hawkes, king, fuller, j.payne, oli, richards/frampton, the other midfielder not included

    dam this is getting difficult

    I'd be looking at a 352/532:

    GK Flitney

    CB Lawrence (captain)
    CB Richards
    CB Frampton

    LDM Martin
    RDM Fish

    CM Whelpdale
    CM Lee
    ACM Weston

    FW Kedwell
    FW Birchall

My only real concern, whatever formation is played, would be a lack of pace in the centre of defence.

I think we may see a surprise with Hessy starting 4-5-1. Injuries aside, and granted I haven't seen anybody in pre-season yet, this is just a gut feeling:-

    Flitney

    Fuller
    Lawrence
    Frampton
    Martin

    Spiller
    Weston
    Lee
    Montrose
    Whelpdale

    Kedwell

SUBS:- New Keeper/Hawkes, Richards, Fish, J Payne, Rooney, Birchall, S Payne/Oli

    Flitney

    Fuller
    Lawrence
    King
    Martin

    Rooney
    Lee
    Montrose
    Whelpdale

    Birchall
    Kedwell

SUBS:- New Keeper, Frampton, Fish, Spiller, S. Payne, Brunt, Miller

To Sell:- Jackman, Richards, Weston and Oli

(I feel seling those player's may help balence the books and are uneeded this year)

Jackman- is a good player but has been used badly during his second stint and has reached the point of no return. He is already transfer listed and I feel, due to his spell at northampton, may be snapped up quickly as he is more than capable of playing well in League 2.

Richards- with the addition of Frampton this year and King coming back to fitness, I feel Gary is now not even a sub at Gilingham. Richards, like Jackman, is a good League 2 player but I can't see him displacing King, Lawrence and Frampton. Plus with the kids coming through in this position it is now time to thank Gary for his effort's but say goodbye.

Weston- on his day is sensational but hasn't been on his day much recently. With a packed midfield I feel a regular place for Curtis may have gone. Also I feel we may get a fair price for Weston as he is really a League 1 player. May follow Barcham to a club like S****horpe.

Oli- never been up too much and will not play at all this season with a Packed midfield. Better to get him of the wage bill now rather than a few years down the line.

I like the look of this tactic, however i really don't rate richards far to clumsy.. although my preferred option would have been gowling who still has a bit of pace which with king and richards we lack oh and the other 2 old codgers of course. But now gowlings gone i think we're lacking pace big time at centre-back. Could cause a few problems..

I'm not sure that Hess will let Richards go. He's made him captain for the last couple of games, even though King was in the team.
