6 signings is not many! Those you have mentioned have provided the quality needed by the clubs they signed for. So it begs the questions.
Why didn't we sign players?
Was it because not many of the quality required were available?
Of those available did we put a bid in?
If so how come we didn't get them?

Sorry going back quite a long way in the thread but I disagree with the 'not many signings elsewhere' part

Reading - Jason Roberts
Southampton - Sharpe
WH - Vaz Te & Maynard
Boro - Jutkevitic (SP?)
Blackpool - Dobbie

The teams that have finished the season well have had significant help since those players (except Boro) have come in.

In terms of quantity no (although that is obviously not a complete list of the Jan actitvity), but in terms of quality most of those signings are massive.

Vaz Te is the only one I'd say would have really given us something else but he was always gonna join Fat Sam and we had no chance of out bidding WH anyway.

I seem to recall MM made an enquiry for Jutkz (easier than trying to spell the whole name) but we wouldn't compete financially with Gibson at Boro. Or perhaps Cov wouldn't sell to us after Gunner and Turner?

Pity he would certainly have been an asset and given us the elusive plan B.

Sounds believable, not sure about the restriction of selling to us, Cov's 'owners/destroyers' would have probably sold him to me if I'd offered cash........
