I've just got to write this fellas, so here goes. Slate me all you want. Am I dissappointed? You bet I am. I may be accused of being overly negative, but it's not just today's game that makes me so annoyed, we've stuttered to this sort of result too many times already, particularly this past dozen games. A game we should have won but once again didn't. You can blame nerves or any of a dozen other reasons (excuses?) why we can't put this sort of game to bed - to me, we're just not good enough. Not enough class or guile to punish teams when we go in front and kill them off. I thought we were lucky to beat Derby on Tuesday. We were a goal up and Hudson's ICBM took the pressure off, but I doubt he'll do that again in his career. If it had gone over the bar or the keeper had got back to save, I wouldn't have been a bit suprised if Derby hadn't taken a point. If you'd asked me at the turn of the New Year, I'd have put money on the squad being improved at that time. Instead, we've been found out and have gone backwards in relation to some of those around us. We are truly fortunate that others around us have hit the wall as well. Boro, Brighton, Hull, and even Leeds have let us off the hook big time. A playoff place beckons and anything can happen over those 3 games, but I've no doubt that we are struggling. If Boro win this evening, I reckon they'll be fired up and go to Watford next week and win it. That means we'll be playing away in our last game of the season, and unless Boro go berserk with their goal tally in those two games, we'll just need a point to be sure of 6th spot. Where have I heard that before?
I don't know about limping over the line, we will probably fall over it due to the failure of those around us. I can't see Borough beating Southampton probably be a draw. That will leave us in the play offs for another year. As I have said on here previously maybe we can succeed this time when no one expects us too. Yes I am clutching at straws here, but you never know. Having said that it would be a bit of travesty if we went up with this team.
We played very well today sparky. Some of our passing play was superb, Lawrence played really well and Mason tool his goal well too. We are certainly not limping through the line as we are on a long unbeaten run. Our only problem is that we carve out few genuine chances, at the end we were stroking the ball about and waiting for opportunities to present themselves instead of carving them out. Gunnarsson should have had a penalty and Hudson was unlucky with his header but we don't attack the box enough. We are great outside it but not in it. Mason also needs to bulk up as he was outmuscled several times and is too 'nice'.
Sorry Swampy, but we are limping. An unbeaten run means nothing except to be able to say that. Just one of those last 6 draws turned into a win would have had us over the line before today's match. All the good approach play in the world does not necessarily mean the 3 ponts that are vital to get out of this league.
Lawrence was my MotM, Whitts & Super Kev IMO have gone backwards over the last 6 weeks, Taylor struggles at times. Very often it looks like we are trying to pass the ball into the net, no one willing to shoot (other than Hudson).
Agreed about Lawrence today - he's come into his own this past couple of games despite a dubious start. Whitts is a shadow of his first half season form. Can't get it out of my head that the midfield still isn't working properly. It neither protects the defence nor promotes the attack to the extent it should do.
Lawrence stood out today fair play, best game of the season for him. Whitts looked disinterested at times and seemed to avoid a lot of tackles.Maybe he's thinking about avoiding injury for when the Prem clubs come knocking. Please Malky start looking for a striker. Look how many goals other top six clubs are scoring.Where would we be now if it wasn't for McPhail is my question?
Well written sparkey. In my opinion, we've been limping since Christmas and only the woeful lack of consistency from the teams around us has contrived to keep us in the top six, despite our seemingly best efforts to avoid it. That said, and agreeing that we're just not good enough, I suppose we have to give credit for punching so far above our weight. It seems to me that we're not lacking in endeavour as far as the players are concerned, but while the team ethic is laudable, the lack of quality and tactical awareness is clear for all to see. My concern is that we didn't strengthen and take advantage of our surprising start to the season. Perhaps this is down to simple economics and we certainly don't want to put the club at risk again. But, I hope that in making their financial decisions, the cost of NOT taking advantage of our start was weighed up. However it happened, we look like we are going to make the play-offs, so it's total support as usual, but I think we're right to air these concerns.
As you say Clingo - total support. Others looking in to this forum like to think that questioning and debating the club is a sign of the opposite. They need to wise up to the vast majority of Cardiff City supporters who never give anything less than 100% to the team, but still reserve the right to pose questions and express concerns.
The saints result is a disappointment guys, but there again sometimes we have only our selves to blame! Thats my rant over
Boro have won. Just to make everyone's evenings all that more cheerful. Predicting a struggle against Palace...
Isn't he spending more time out on the right where he belongs, rather than tripping over whitts and gunner in the middle. A point needed. Why do we never make anything easy for ourselves?
Hiya remote Yes, I can't imagine Watford will want to do us any favours against Boro. In any case, after all the favours we've already had, this one is in our own hands...............the most dangerous place in the Championship! Palace out for revenge for the cup semi and able to play without pressure, leaves me with a bad feeling. Still with 18 draws so far, surely we can get another one.
Evening cling. Out for most of the day so was keeping up by texts from my daughter. Must get one of those snazy phones with t'internet. I am a liability with phones though. They don' mix with fishing. Another one in the airing cupboard drying after a dip in a lake. At least it's down to us. We're not dependant on anyone else. Not sure that fills me with confidence though. How did we do against Leeds? From the BBC site, we could have won it. At least today's point puts Hull out of the equation. One of two for the last place. Goal difference in our favour. Mixed feelings. I'd have taken this position at the start of the season (I had us down as 5th to 8th). It seems a bit of an anticlimax given where we were two months back though. You could get an ulcer being a Bluebirds fan.
I am sorry...but limping?? We are doing as well as we expected we could do. We have not been beaten in ages. There are many good teams around us. I just don't understand what you want from the lads. For me, the fact that we are sitting here just needing a draw to make the playoffs is exciting for us. Missing Blackpool in a playoff semi is a bonus, The lads worked very hard today. Anyone who gets us from here on in would be worried about playing us without doubt. Limping in??? Sorry, I jut don't get it. It suggests we assume we should be in the playoffs!! Man, the lads worked so hard again. I really respect how we are playing right now.
