Just a slight nuance to the thread / post we have all seen a billion times which looks at our squad depth for the new season. We all know it's not deep. I just wanted to create a proper like-for-like comparison for the players that have left and the players that have / are replacing them. Caveat - I have included O'Nien as a CB last year as I wanted to do a like for like squad comparison with end of last season. Key: Player left --> Player joined (or in new position or back from injury) GK Matthews --> Patterson FB Hume --> ?? Vokins --> ?? McFadzean --> ?? McLaughlin --> ?? CB Willis --> Doyle O'Nien --> Xhemajli Sanderson --> ?? CM Leadbitter --> Evans Power --> O'Nien Scowen --> Neil Neil --> ??? (I'm including Neil here twice as I think he has "stepped up" from a back up role to a squad role) Attacking Midfielders Maguire --> Pritchard Jones --> Embleton Strikers Wyke --> Grigg So basically according to my extremely noddy analysis, from a numbers perspective we need 4 full backs 1 centre back and 1 centre midfielder only. You can kinda see why it might be difficult for them to find wiggle room within player numbers and wage budget. I'm not au fait with the current rules on that (I know GOM over the road is), but it seems to me like we absolutely need to move some players out, either permanently or on loan, to create some more space. O'Brien and Grigg going for me are an absolute necessity. Plus one of Flanagan and Wright.
The horrendous wage cap of last season is gone, and I'm not sure there's been any suggestions we need to shift players on before bringing anyone else in. The squad is threadbare as it is. We need to add a little more pace quality up top as well, whether that's out wide or upfront.
Clarke Harris, Sanderson in would be brilliant, Benjy given more games, he came on yesterday and got forward and did things, we need impact players remember Michael bridges? That type of player.
I think Stewart is going into Wykes role, I’d have Grigg as a —> as I think he will be leaving. Dyce played at LB yesterday and looked ok. Interesting times ahead, I’m all for this data approach and I hope we get a few good additions.
