Perhaps the extended 2 year deal is a sign that he will by default be "promoted" to official number 2 behind Rob Green for next season when Cesar has moved across London. Cerny has hung up his boots and if the cost cutting rumours are to be believed then maybe Green/Murphy and then youth goalies is the way we will go for the next couple of years.
I dont think its worth going cheap on a reserve goalie. Fair enough for a 3rd string who will only probably play once or twice in 5 years but an injury or loss of form to Green could leave us desperate to find a loan goalie.
Agreed, i think we should have someone at least half decent He is in "quite an important position" in the team formation after all!!
