The title above is a well worn saying that's been on Queenslander's lips as long as I can remember. And I'm an old bastard. Yesterday at Meydan one of our old war horses, Buffering, pulled off a nice, upset win. With every year the old marvel seems to improve. Queenslanders love this horse, he's as honest as the day is long. His trainer hit the nail on the head when he said. "He's not necessarily the fastest horse in the world, but, gee, he is tough. I knew he would be hard to beat once I saw Damian sitting motionless on him halfway up the straight." Damian Browne rated Buffering to perfection, allowing the horse to record a blistering 56:34 for the 1000m. Buffering earned early praise in Brisbane, where he quickly went through the classes. Once into Group One racing, he began to put in some nice solid runs, but he just couldn't crack it. The prize money though kept ticking over. It quickly began to run into the millions. It took him an amazing 18 G1 races before he finally picked up that much deserved win. Then something clicked inside Buffering's head, everything all of a sudden fell into place. He's now won 7 of his last 13 G1 races and has amassed nearly AU7,000,000. And his global wanderings are not over just yet. All going well, the eight year old will line up in the G1 Chairman's Sprint in Hong Kong on May 1, before heading to Royal Ascot for the King's Stand Stakes. He's in the dark blue and black and blue hood, in the centre of the course. I wonder if the caller is a Queenslander?
