Liam Kelly admits dream move to Bristol City turned into nightmare after boss Derek McInnes was axed just hours after debut THE Scotland ace says one of the main reasons he signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Bristol City was down to getting the chance to work with boss Derek McInnes. I bet he is in a right quandary,I hope it doesn't turn sour for him or us and I also hope SOD reassures him...... http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liam-kellys-move-down-south-1533230
To be fair I think the headline is pretty sensationalist - quotes directly attributed to Kelly himself suggests that though he was shocked by the situation, he was just going to get his head down and focus on the next game, about how beautiful he found the city, how being so much closer to his home in Milton Keynes is a bonus and that he thought it was a forward step in his career.
does the consumer protection act cover him........bet that is a really really sad state of affairs......i would be really pissed off myself......there was a lot of skulduggery going on here.........we now a have a board that appoints a manager before the last one has been sacked and comes up with a lot drivel about DM and looking to the future with the kids and the academy and him being the perfect man for the job.......how much is this fiasco going to cost us..what about the other 2 players on the hook..almost..bet they think uuuuuum what is going on here then! will we survive? only if we win 5 of our next 7
Think the headlines a bit misleading. Hes obviously gutted Dereks gone but hes a professional and wants to do his best for the club. Nothing to worry about wiz
Feel sorry for the lad, after all, City allowed the deal to go through knowing that DM was going anyway, hope like you say Wiz, O'Driscoll can reassure him that everything will be fine working under him.
TO Quote: “I didn’t think he was in any danger despite the poor run the club were on and I thought he would be given the time to turn it around. Liam if you read this: he (Mcinnes) had his chances and something needed to change quick to give us half a chance of staying up, heres hoping Liam Kelly fits in to the plans of the new man in charge and he becomes an added bonus to our team.... COYR's
bet he got a shock when he came off and saw Reid come on and producedmore in 10 minutes than he did in 80 minutes
Not sure what part of 'Get behind the new manager' you dont get JGF2. Its not just about survival my friend, its about what we do to ensure we dont end up being in this same situation again, having to bring in other people spare players, like McManus, Bates, D. Wilson and Danns, in order to dig us out of the mess we are in. We need to grow our own heroes, and either keep them, or sell them for a great profit (in order to re-invest)
Just reading wize's post and noticed that Kelly was given a three and a half year contract! My gawd, has neither club learned anything over the last year?! That's a bluddy ridiculous length of time, unless he's the next big thing! We gave Matt Gill a 3 yr contract, and he's constantly injured and has failed to deliver. And you've given an even longer contract to Kelly! Your board must be mad!
Not really Pirate. We've shown recently that we can offload players that don't play, What would of happened if we only gave Albert Adomah a 2 year contract? He wouldn't be around now and we bloody need him. If Kelly proves a big hit then we've got him for some time, If he doesn't it will take about 1-2 years to find out. If he's no good we will be able to offload him, but I have every confidence he will be a good player in due time. Only 22 so his best years are ahead of him.
Having played his first game against one of the division's top teams, Kelly now knows the level to which he must aspire. I would think that will keep him busy, and drive such childish nonsense from his mind
Of course Liam Kelly isn't happy. If I got a new job because I liked a manager and the guy left the day I started I'd be ****ing livid too. Liam Kelly is perfectly within his rights to speak to the owner and new manager and express his concerns. I'll be gutted for the lad if he doesn't play under SOD.
If I were in charge and he really has an issue with coming here thinking that he has been misled then call him in the office and offer to cancel his contract - simples. It would also send a message that we are a caring club, so there.
It'd also put us out of pocket by a few hundred thousand pound. The best I'd offer him is a chance to prove himself under the new manager, and if things really won't work out I'd ask Kilmarnock if they take returns for cash. I assume we still have the receipt?
To all the people who think that DM and Doc were treated badly I just ask you to look at the club's record under their stewardship. And to anyone else who think that the hiring of SOD was done underhandedly thei I suggets you look elsewhere and tell me that this situation hasn't occurred at other clubs in the past. I commend the board on their forward thinking on this occasion and welcome aboard the big ship Bristol City to Sean.
I agree with a few others, the headline was misleading. I also guess this was reported either Saturday night or yesterday as no mention of SoD taking over. I thought he sounded positive getting his head down and trying to get us out of this mess.
Inver, i for one think SOD was hired before DM & Doc were relieved of there duties, and yes it does go on at other clubs, i just think it was a bit harsh on young Kelly, but thats football these days. I admit the record under DM this season obviously led to his demise, but life goes on, best of luck to SOD.
That disagrees with what S O'D said in his interview that the first he knew of the job vacancy was late saturday night in a phone call from Jon Lansdown asking him to come down to Bristol to speak with the board. Now either this is true or we can't trust anything said in the future by either O'Driscoll or Lansdown.
I'm a naive sort of person and unless someone gives me reason to doubt their honesty, I accept what people say. Why would we have some sort of cover up conspiracy about when and how SOD was approached by BCFC? I believe we should all accept that until Leicester went 3-0 up before half time, the board had not already decided to sack McInnes on Saturday or any other day. And as the board had interviewed SOD only 16 months ago, and he was out of work, it's not hard to work out that it all started happened after 5pm Saturday evening. I believe that to try and turn the weekends events into a conspiracy is pure sh1t stirring by some. And so to the article about Liam Kelly; yes he would have been surprised and maybe upset with the sacking. But here is his quote from the newspaper article âDuring the past four years Iâve had six or seven managers so itâs something Iâm getting used to and I suppose itâs just part and parcel of the game now." Liam Kelly is already used to managerial changes. A good article spoiled/sensationalised by typical sub-editor's muck raking headline! Newspapers are supposed to print facts not suppositions dressed up as facts. I believe he will get a fair crack from SOD, who for all we know would/could have made the same signing as DMc. SOD has stated he certainly wants Kyle McFadzean from Crawley so perhaps DMc's player judgement is not as way off line as some posters think!
