No. What a waste of around 7 seconds it took me to read this. Thanks. I will never get that time back!
Hearn would need to start scoring at a league 2 club at least before even thinking of a punt. Matt Tubbs of Crawley. Get him signed. 1 million should be more than enough.
He's 26 and as far as I'm aware, he's never played outside of non league football, in fact, as far as I know this is his first season in the fifth tier.
Its interesting (well, to me anyway) that he has scored that many goals when he went his first 10 games without scoring. If we did take a punt I doubt our fans would show the patience in him to let him settle (as he obviously seems to need to).
IF Hull City signed Messi and he failed to score after 3 games then many would be on his back. I dont care who scores as long as the team WINS.
Thing is with players like this they are only available to us while unproven. Once they get a chance at League 1 or 2 level and prove themselves there, they become out of our league (Rhodes, Morison?) The key is spotting the ones who will do well at a higher level without the proof.
That's certainly true of Morison, but it's very rare for a player at non-league level, past his mid twenties to suddenly be discovered and make the step up. Rhodes doesn't really count, as he went through the Barnsley and Ipswich academies and it was only due to a cock-up by Roy Keane that he didn't go straight into the Ipswich first team.
True. I'm not actually arguing Hearn's case, just pointing out that everyone moans that we didn't spot players like Morison sooner, but would instantly dismiss the same player a few years earlier when they are actually available. Obviously knowing that they will get better is the key skill here. That's what was so good about Steve Walsh.
At 26 he's hardly past it. At all levels of the football pyramid the goals are the same size, so if you have the instinct and ability to score goals, it will carry you through your career. Look at Rickie Lambert, he's 29 and has spent a long time in the lower leagues and im certain there will be interest from the premier league because he scores goals everywhere he goes. .
Thats why i think Matt Tubbs would be a good buy. You can argue that he maybe as good or better in time than Messrs. La Fondra - Lambert - Sharp - Morison - Graham et al. Unless you give the lad a chance you shall never know. Its the same size goal regardless of which league you play in. Tubbs has shown that he knows the way to goal. 500k down and the same again subject to goals - apperances etc may clinch the deal.
