QPR ride luck to break Fulham duck despite Mason’s efforts – Report

QPR rounded off a tough week for manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink with a somewhat fortunate late win at bogey ground Craven Cottage.

None of the Queens Park Rangers players were born when QPR last won at Craven Cottage in 1980, and few of them probably have much idea how they managed it on Saturday.

A topsy-turvy, fiercely entertaining afternoon of Championship football included two missed Fulham penalties (and a host of other sitters beside), a refereeing performance Rob Styles would have been proud of, a first league goal in QPR colours for Conor Washington, a late winning goal for Idrissa Sylla and a crazy five minutes of stoppage time in which the hosts hit the woodwork on two separate occasions while chasing an equaliser.


For the long suffering QPR fans who've seen five straight defeats on this ground in the modern era, including the last three where Rangers were trailing by three goals at half time, any sort of win by the river is more than welcome. For those who've been suffering the dreary matches involving our team so far this season, it was nice to have the pulse racing and the senses stimulated by football again. And Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, at the end of a week when an overblown Daily Telegraph 'sting' called his job into question, probably felt he was due a bit of luck.

Thanks Nines! Had a good laugh when Clive's lambasting of referee Mason got to the point where he said Mason was forced into doing some defending at LB for Fulham rather than his earlier marauding up our right flank!

Thought Mason's Bolton connections were common knowledge.

Actually thought of something this morning about the 2nd penalty he gave on Saturday for supposed dangerous play by Ned.......cast your minds back to the Play Off Final and the last minute of stoppage time. Bamford tries a speculative over head kick and Barton has to jump to head the ball away from Bamford's foot narrowly missing get a kick to the head, decision by Mason? Corner to Derby.

Now on Saturday Ned tries to play a ball at waist height and the Fulham player ducks his head down to the ball and is perceived to be dangerous play, thus a penalty given.

Where's the consistency in those decisions? There isn't any and that's why Mason gets the flack he does.

Can the Club object to him reffng any more games for us? Maybe it wasn't true but I heard Chelsea stopped having someone ref their games under Mourinho.

To be fair (which I am not inclined to be when it comes to QPR), Bobby was red carded - was it that Wigan game again when Remy scored the cracker - for a very similar offence. No idea who the ref was.

That was somewhat different in that Zamora actually kicked the fella in the head. It didn't appear that Onuoha made any contact last week.

The other thing about the Zamora incident was that he was effectively sent off by the fourth official - getting in the ref's ear after having seen TV replays.

We've been fined 7 500 pounds for surrounding poor little Lee Mason with 3 players after his 2nd penalty award. How you can surround anyone that large with 3 people must have been a big achievement and worth 3 bonus points. I hope he is not allowed to Referee us again, or anyone else for a while.

It was never a penalty in the first place, Mason's incompetence compounds the injustice by reporting he was 'surrounded'. He's just a c*nt...
