People associate that type of hairstyle with gang members, criminals etc. Not saying it's anyone on this board but I've seen a lot of comments on Twitter criticising his hairstyle, not realising that it's a common style in black culture.

It's unconscious racial bias. It's the same as how the media portray white people vs minorities. We saw so many articles about how Pogba's hair is daft etc but then people liking Foden's new style.

We saw the same with how Sturridge was treated by our own fans - the guy is incredibly hard working and professional but because he dances and has a personality, people think he's arrogant, lazy, bad attitude.

 

Its should be called out. That way it can become conscious, rather than used as an excuse.

Unfortunately when you do call it out, people get defensive and say it's 'pulling out the race card' or they think it's just'. The issue with this country (and everywhere else for that matter), non minorities think racism is only when you say racial slurs like p*ki and n*gger. That's just scratching the surface.
