Hounded out by the ''fans''? Hope he is going to a club that appreciates him? One loose pass in 30 against Barnet and gets slaughtered. Dear old Jack Payne, 2 mistakes in a minute after coming on, but nothing!! I know we all have our favourites, but didnt deserve most of the crap thrown his way... Lewis Montrose better goals to games ratio too!!!
I think you will find than Montrose was poor in more than just one game. Give him credit his presence in and around the edge of the box is good and he does score goals, but as he was signed as a holding player and is a holding player, he doesn't particularly prove to be stable in that position. Payne's defending, passing, tackling and distribution is generally better. Yeah you can look at the games/to goal ratio but he played his first 20 odd games at right back and has spent most of his career covering the back four like a holding midfielder would be expected to. Im not saying Montrose is terrible, just that he is currently no better than the other players who can play in middle of the park and doesn't particularly offer us much.

Montrose has been hugely underrated. Against Barnet he won more tackles than the rest of the midfield put together, won everything in the air and played about half a dozen ugly misdirected passes which the halfwits in the crowd seized on. He can dominate midfield like no other Gills player and he is a useful goalscorer. He has been man of the match several times and ran the game at Wimbledon but he will always spray some loose passes and look inelegant. Sadly he is better off elsewhere where he might be better appreciated.
