Let's take stock of where we are after 13 games...

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Nov 27, 2011.

  1. 1 Man City 13 31 35
    2 Man Utd 13 17 30
    3 Tottenham 12 10 28
    4 Newcastle 13 7 26
    5 Chelsea 13 11 25
    6 Liverpool 13 5 23
    7 Arsenal 13 3 23
    8 Aston Villa 13 -1 16
    9 Everton 12 -1 16
    10 Norwich 13 -2 16

    Not bad, really, is it?

Mind you, I think there'll be a better symmetry to the table when we go second <ok>

Just behind the leaders is a perfect place to be at this stage. We don't want to blow ourselves out too early. Let's just go along quietly and nothing too spectacular. 5-0 thrashing of Bolton next week.

  4. Hm. I see what your thinking is, there, Thor. A bit like Seb Coe's tactics, in his epic battles with Steve Ovett, in the 80s. Good point.

Well that's right Hoddle. I've seen it so many times but not in recent years admittedly. Teams who are early season pacemakers tend to run out of steam earlier than those who go along quietly. Look at Chelsea last season, way out in front but they were gradually caught and won nothing. Just like Seb Coe as you say. Let's play our best football at the end of the season not at the beginning.
Oh hello Jayram,CL hangover yesterday or is your run coming to an end?

  6. Indeed, Jayram.

The 1500m race is, of course, a far better analogy, being the longer race.

Think about it. We have won the last 4 matches by 2 goals. Let's see if I can remember them. QPR 1-3, Fulham 1-3, WBA 1-3 and Villa 2-0. Now all of those teams are better than Bolton who have a lot of injuries and we have our top team out. We are at home so why not a 4 or a 5-0 thrashing next week? Our top players will have a rest this week so I see no reason why not.

My laugh was about the contrast between the two sentences, TMT.
Nothing too spectacular, just the odd 5-0 drubbing.

I saw that PNP hee heee heee. But I think Bolton will be lucky to get away with a 5-0 drubbing as it could be a lot more by the chances we are making.
Not giddy at all Luke,I'm well known amongst my friends for putting things in a modest way. Man Utd losing a bit of potency as I posted. Bit of a lucky goal that yesterday.

Surely we have only played 12 games so it should look like this after 13 : 2 Tottenham 13 15?? 31.

Well, next week we'll beat Bolton,Newcastle will beat Chelsea and Arsenal will beat Wigan. Villa could draw with Utd or even win it and City I suppose should beat Norwich but I don't know. Liverpool should win as I remember who they are playing but cannot at the moment. So Chelsea should drop down to 7th a position from which I don't think they will recover. So we could be second in the table next week. Utd won at Swansea and Villa drew and Villa are at home to Utd so bearing that in mind I think a low scoring match at Villa next week. Spurs second I will repeat it.

  12. It would be great to go into the New Year in 2nd spot, with our game still in-hand.

Man city's goal difference is ridiculously good for this stage of the season

We tried the 800m tactics for the last 50 years and it hasn't worked. Its time for a change.

Did anyone see the stat about how 3 previous teams have matched city after 12 games (11 wins + 1 draw) and only 1 of those teams (Spurs in 61) went on to win the league?
So, the odds are against city <laugh>

Liverpool had the chances to beat City yesterday and Norwich won't roll over and let them win either. "Bottlers." We all know that do we? I don't,not this present Spurs team anyway. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yep, i remember the day up at eastlands 2 seasons ago when spurs "bottled" it. I also remember them "bottling" the CL qualifier against young boys. Its such a shame we didn't get to play in the competition.

Still, i'd rather be Spurs right now than Liverpool.
