    - so far we've signed as many players as Man Utd.

    - Man City spent £90M on players and beat us by the same margin as last season.

    - We've kept two clean sheets (in all competitions).

    - Both Ameobis have scored this season(!).

    - We're in the second round of the League Cup.

    - We have a home draw in the League Cup.

    - There's 36 more league games to go, which equates to 108 points still to play for.

    - We're closer to paying off Ashleys debts.

    - We haven't got that pesky distraction of playing in Europe (so our Manager says).

Please add to the list, as I've stretched the limit of my positivity.

Good stuff! Keep it coming. At this rate the positivity is gonna be rolling down the stands on to the pitch and out of the players feet. This is how revolutions are started...:emoticon-0135-makeu

    Yes!!!

What is potted shrimp? It sounds like something along the same line as crab sticks.

At last... Another normal diner... I'm sick of these fancy schmambies having "pulled pork" (a ****?) and lobster 3 times a day!

Brown shrimp in mace flavoured butter with a dash of cayenne. I was not blown away by it after hearing so many rave about it. Still better than JPF's Heinz tomato soup though <eatslikeahobo>

So you're an eater of soup rather than a drinker, we'll have to have a thread on this one.

Hmmm. Sounds quite appetising. I'll have to look out for it, but will approach with a moderate level of enthusiasm - so as to avoid disappointment.

For the record. If I could afford to eat pulled pork and lobster every day, I probably would. Just that I have to stick to the more hobo-like fare.

ps. still yet to try your pulled pork recipe, Pouchy. Haven't got around to it, but it's still something I want to try out.

    the under 18's done well

    (thanks to nufc.com)

    Newcastle U18s 3 mackem U18s 0

    Smith slots home the opener

United's Academy side registered their first victory of the season at the third attempt on Wednesday, deservedly leaving their local rivals goalless and pointless.

Strikes from Jamie Smith, Jonathyn Quinn and Alex Gilliead avenged back to back losses to the mackems last season during which the black and whites conceded ten goals.

The margin of victory however doesn't reflect a game in which the home side were dominant in all areas and the visitors failed to muster a shot of any description.

United were the first to show and after Gilliead had driven wide, Macaulay Gillesphey ended a period of sustained Newcastle pressure by heading against the crossbar.

Both Smith and Quinn then failed to test visiting 'keeper Peter Burke from distance as the Magpies continued to play at a high tempo, continually pressing the mackems back into their own half.

Burke did little to help the visitors out with a string of risky clearances but a rare red and white attack was to prompt Newcastle's 40th minute opener.

Left back Kyle Cameron took possession in his own box and set Gilliead off down the left hand channel, his run on goal eventually halted illegally by Martin Smith. Liam Smith then coolly deceived the 'keeper from the resultant spot kick for his second goal in as many games this season.

Leading the line for United, Quinn then wasted a great chance to double his side's advantage in first half added time, only managing to place a weak shot on goal after good work by right back Jamie Sterry.

However Quinn atoned for that miss on 66 minutes by taking down a cross-field ball on the right hand of the mackem area, steadying himself and picking his spot beyond Burke to make it 2-0.

And a third duly arrived in the final seconds of play, substitute Callum Roberts forcing his way down the Newcastle right and pulling the ball across the six yard area to give the unmarked Gilliead a simple tap in.

Always a good result no matter what level it's played at.

    Well done the youngsters.

We are only a laughing stock, as opposed to our wearside neighbours who happen to be a ticking time-bomb...

    There are no positives.

On the other hand the potted shrimp with toast at the Broad Chare is not bad.

HBA has gone through a proper pre-season so may stay fit for the whole season! And Le Gouff is looking tidy!

We have two youngsters called "the next Wayne Rooney" - Adam's Campbell and Armstrong.

We only had one player playing out of position last night (Marv).

I actually like the younger Ameobi infinitely more than the older. Which is a good thing as I expect he'll be stuck at this club for the same amount of time.

    Ben Arfa is absolutely class.

Biggest positive for me is that last season Anita would have started this game and played the full 90 minutes. So the fact that he didn't shows to me that Pardew has big plans for him this season which can only be a good thing. I think he's a cracking little player.

Also, is Gosling that bad? He ran his a$$ off last night. He had a really big reputation when we picked him up for nowt, David Platt/Kevin Nolan type. He's different to what we have, shouldn't we keep him now?
