We are all hoping for a new striker to be signed before this transfer-window close.According to our official club web-site,we have sold David Healy to Rangers and not just on loan. This will release more monery into the club coffers. Will this allow us to sign someone special before the window closes?I don't think that we should sign such as Fuller on a short-term deal...we should look for someone who will improve our squad. What are your thoughts, lads and lasses???
As I have just said on another thread, we should have gone in for Adebayor. But now, I just dont think there is the quality around, maybe we should hold off till Summer.......
if bent had gone a wek earlier im sure we would have went for adebayor ( mite not have gt him) but wed have at least tried or even santa cruz... at this moment i think your right GRB, not enough quality. save the money or stump up for torres lol
Sorry I just dont get the "we need to buy a striker" posts that we're seeing. i don't subscribe to the "Bent's gone - we need another striker in now brigade"! I don't see the point in spending 2 or 3 million on someone we aren't going to get our money back on in the summer when Bruce has said we are going to have to spend big then to replace Bent. We need to be scoring from midfield or off the striker, as we did last week at Blackpool with richardson playing just behind Gyan. We've gone big with Muntari and Sess which broadens our attack. The goals will come. KTF
Sandymackem, point taken. Having attacking midfielders playing off Gyan is a great option. However, he might get injured (aaaaaaaaagh!) and I think we really do need someone till Wellbeck & Campbell are back. We had Benjani on loan of course, and he wasn't much cop, but he could come off the bench and lend a hand and that's what we need IMO. Given our two PL loan players, it'd have to be someone from abroad.
No news could be great news IMO Brucie even said after the blackpool game Gyan is best played upfront by himself Welbeck is back in 4games time so I am sure we will manage to get through the next 3games if anything happens to Gyan than its bad luck Sessegnon would probably have to lead the line but I would rather than him than some striker who in reality will of came in to provide back up for 3games incase Gyan gets injured. Keep the money buy the big name replacement for Bent in the striker aswell as a fourth striker
Both sides of the argument make sense. Just got a seaking feeling we'll pull someone in. Aint got a clue who mind...
think brucey knows who he wants and is gonna wait till the summer ,we just got healy and reid of the wage bill and he dosent want to put someone on he dont really want on it because we had have too many lost causes on it for a while now,in other words he cant get anyone good enough or who he wants worth the money in this window
Two good looking signings made- fringe players moved on- contract extensions about to be started- there's only so much that can be achieved in a short space of time. For sure the squad has been improved and as long as Gyan maintains fitness we'll be good. We deserve a fit squad over the coming weeks after what we've endured in recent times. More like ER than SAFC. KTF.
prob enough to bed in would of been nice one striker one midfielder but still satisfied with the two we got if we got a striker to day prob not play tomorrow anyway another couple of games welbeck might be back with a bit luck
The market has exploded this transfer window due to the so called 'big teams' (villa, liverpool, chelsea etc) dropping off this season and some of the 'lesser' teams having some star performers. Waiting til the summer is the right thing to do.
At the beginning of the season it was a top half finish and that is still this seasons target. One more season and a couple more players in like this plus a top striker and we'll really be ready for Europe. OK if we do get there this season I'll take it but if we don't we're still on track and I can wait another season if need be. So do we really need a striker now If it happens it happens but if not it's not the end of the world. If he gets a real replacement for Bent then fine. If he decides to leave it then OK. SAFC is a project, a team in the making and a bit of caution isn't a bad thing.
trouble is the panic buying is pushing the prices up to stupid amounts of money if they arnt carefull portsmouth springs to mind, and we will have to pay silly money in the summer for a striker if we buy from home,so hope steve has got the scouts busy abroad
