Hi guys just after a bit of advice, i am waiting for a call back from the sports desk at the HDM. Basically i feel very passionate, as im sure you all do, that Deano's Medal ends up as property of the club. I think that i could set up a donation website and use the power of the HDM readership and the Club (through match program etc) to encourage fans to submit and donation. I would suggest £1 but people could give as much or as little as they like. I would then try to approach the club and see if they would be willing to match what we the fans raise. Therefore it would be a collective bid by the fans and the club to not only secure this fantastic bit of history for the club but also to raise some good money for one of our greatest player's charity choice. 17,000 plus fans visit the KC every home match if only a 10th of these people were to donate a quid and that sum was matched by the club we would already have more than the £3000 someone has offered to start the bidding with. I am very passionate about this and would be willing to work so see this idea come to fruition including approaching local business for donations also. What do you guys think, any advice would be more than appreciated. Please donât crap on this idea without a helpful alternative suggestion, I am doing this for no other reason then I love the club and I value the clubs history. I also think that if Dean is willing to sell such a prize possession for a charity then he deserves a reasonable fee. I also love the idea of supporters and club coming together to collectively buy something.
It sounds like a decent enough idea. I would start here http://www.justgiving.com/ for a way of setting up a way of collecting donations
thank you boothferry, my brother recently used that website to help raise money for Great Ormond Street, he said that it was easy to use, my only concern is that say we raise £2000 and then some big money joker (Bullard!) decides they want to buy it for £50000 and our bid fails how do I make sure all of the fans get their money back. Unless the website has a refund option, I will have to investigate further.
yeh that is a problem, i think (some) people will probably object to giving deano money that they know will go to his childre when he presumably has alot more money than the majority of the fans. Difficult. Maybe Deano would change his objectives in the spirit or trying to riase the maximum amount of money for his charity AND see the medal remain with the club
Maybe, I admire your quest! I certainly wouldn't want to donate until I knew my money would definitely be going to charity
If Deano was 75 years old and on his uppers then yes but otherwise no thanks. He has earned a shedload of money but why should i pay him money to give to his kids. Fine if it was all going to the cancer ward.
this i feel, may be the sticking point, i am currently writing to Dan Pratt and the club to float this idea and see if communication could be started with Dean to discuss some issues.
Don't want to disappoint you but I think if he wanted it to go 2 the club he would have asked them first?
Great idea , the club get deanos medal to put on display, and we raise some cash for ward 33, castle hill cancer centre . hope it can be done. ps...IF we get outbid then the money can still go to ward 33...
I honestly do not understand this but forgive me as I am as crissed as a picket. This medal is part of Hull City's history. It's not like all the other medals belonging to the team that took us to the EPL. This is the medal that belongs to the bloke who scored the goal that took us to the EPL. If we never ever achieve EPL status again this medal is symbolic of THAT game, in THAT match and THAT goal. It belongs in the trophy cabinet of Hull City football club. There can be surely no question of that. Why Deano is putting it up for sale is his personal choice and it is perhaps commendable in that the money (or part of) raised is going to a very worthwhile cause but the medal itself is part of Hull City's history. Perhaps Mr Allam could step in here and ensure that the medal takes it's rightful place and both an appropriate charity and Deano's children can benefit from the monies that the medal would garnish.
Spot on, TigerRoo! And - if we get out-bid - then, as suggested, the money raised goes to Castle Hill anyway.
agree with both points. To be fair if windass wants to give half the money to his kids I would find it a strange decision but it wouldn’t stop me wanting to secure that medal for the club. As you rightly point out its not just any old medal from that game it is the medal of the guy who scored the goal that took us to the EPL. It is in fact THE medal. Also like the idea that if we are outbid money can still go to castle hill. Ideally I would like to contact Windass through the club and see if he is willing to agree a fee with us that he would definitely sell to us and anything above that price is simply a bonus, that way we fans know what we have to aim for and know that we will be successful, also if the club agree to match whatever we raise then they will also be aware of what financial commitment they will have to make.
