Each time I air my view that our current plight is not really down to the manager, I am repeatedly reminded that he is the one responsible for the team selection (true) and the tactics that we employ so, as the title says, lets do the team talk. If the majority of our recent performances are anything to go by, the pre match instructions would go something like this.... Ok lads, this what I want you to do today... Defence:-Don't worry, I don't want you to do your job as a professional footballer today - don't do much defending, cover each other or slot in where needed today. Also, it's fine by me if you go out there and wander around aimlessly, panic as soon as you are put under pressure and play like you've never met each other before and let in lots of goals because I really don't care about my job or progressing my career... Oh and Liam, a special instruction to you - just wander around like you have concussion, let the opposition strikers wander past you like your foot is nailed to the floor and carry on doing those pathetic little half hearted flicks when they do and just make sure that you do your best to look like the worse footballer ever... Midfield:- Don't worry lads, we won't be needing you today but in the unlikely event that the ball does come to you, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PASS THE BALL FORWARDS sideways and backwards only and every 3rd pass should go to the opposition. No one take responsibility, just get rid of the ball as quickly as possible... Forwards:-Right, I want you to make loads of runs, all the time even though you know that there is very little chance the ball will arrive . Ryan, under no circumstances are you allowed to face in the direction of the goal and Albert, I want you to drible past 5 defenders like they are not there and then pass the ball to one of their players... So, according to some, these are roughly the instructions that Derek McInnnes issues to the players before the game. Clearly this is because his entire game plan since he got here was to rinse BCFC for every penny he could and then disappear into obscurity where no one will every employ him again because of course his entire career footballing suggests that he settled for 2nd best... Does ANYONE at all on here really think for one second that this is how it is...? - the sheer idiocy of this very idea must be clear to even the most vociferous critic of DM... Lets instead look at what is REALLY going on behind the scenes. What we are dealing with here is self preservation, pure and simple.... Once again, here is a list of the 12 players out of contract in the summer:- Heaton - contracted to 30th June 2013 (with further 1 year option) Wilson (M) - contracted to 30th June 2013 Morris - contracted to 30th June 2013 Gerken - contracted to 30th June 2013 Carey - contracted to 30th June 2013 Nyatanga - contracted to 30th June 2013 Carey - contracted to 30th June 2013 Wilson (J) - contracted to 30th June 2013 Amadi-Holloway - contracted to 30th June 2013 Skuse - contracted to 30th June 2013 Elliott - contracted to 30th June 2013 Stead - contracted to 30th June 2013 I would not accuse Louis, Cole or Steady of not trying, they have enough self respect not to do this. Of the rest, lets have some thoughts from the panel as to who will be offered new contracts - the rest of this years batch are pretty much marginalised or don't feature and I believe that in addition, the likes of LF, NK and Woolly who are contracted to 2014 probably think that they will not feature once we have acquired DM's chosen replacements in the summer. So, lets not beat around the bush, after all, we've seen it before here and everywhere else. This is about exiting the current incumbent who has probably let everyone know where they stand. Let's get this manager fired and then all of a sudden, those who have appeared as less than useless, will suddenly become world beaters again as they then perform properly trying to win a new contract. They don't really care about the club so long as they stay in work... We all know that these players are capable of better, in some cases a lot so Think about it and then tell me I am wrong.... I think (but am not totally sure) that it was Robbie Savage on 5 Live who came up with the thought that why is it always the manager who gets the sack, it is about time that it started happening to players as well. If I underperform for any length of time at work (which I never have), I would get put on a PIP = personal improvement plan and if things were no better after 3 months, I WOULD BE EXITED...!!!
The problem is Prem that so many on this board actually see these things happening on the pitch and although all the realists can see that no manager would give pre-match instructions like those we are concerned as to what he actually does say. Whatever he says in training and before the match it clearly isn't working and that is the point so many of us are trying to make you understand. Although quite cynical I must say that your thread was very funny and well put. My analagy would be that a bus driver does not expect his passengers to rule the roost, and I'm afraid the a lot of our players are indeed passengers and I don't really believe that Derek can drive.
I get annoyed with the team selections, but as I said on a previous thread I only see the team play 90 minutes. I have no idea what their fitness levels are, or if they are carrying a knock. But apart from this, I don't think a new manager will make a difference and I have stuck my cock on the block by also saying Peterborough, Barnsley and one other out of us Sheffield Wednesday (who is managed by most peoples choice on here) Birmingham and one of Huddlesfield or Charlton. Most seasons you have one from mid table who breaks into a run makes playoffs and one who slips into a bad run which is out of Huddlesfield or Charlton in my opinion. We are 3 points from safety a game in hand. Find some hungry defenders and midfielders in Jan and we could claw ourselves to safety. Then as you said the rest of the dross will leave hopefully. Very well put Prem
Once again Prem, very valid and well written. Our problem is still that the idiots are running the asylum and it's about time that the idiots were disposed of without further delay. We all know who they are so it saves me re-typing the list again. Put the Academy boys out against Lesta!!!!!!!!!!! We are still in with an even chance of staying up if we get a couple or three quality in during January and McInnes leaves the dross out altogether.
You forgot the keeper : "don't forget, I guarantee you will have to fetch the ball out of the net at least a couple of times - the first time within the first 10 or 15 minutes. Just fetch it out, look despondent and then hoof it back to the halfway line. Dont worry, you'll get it back again soon enough"
Nyatanga - contracted to 30th June 2013 Carey - contracted to 30th June 2013 Skuse - contracted to 30th June 2013 Elliott - contracted to 30th June 2013 Wilson (M) - contracted to 30th June 2013 Morris - contracted to 30th June 2013 All of these need to be shipped out as a minimum regardless of what division we are in
Depending on if he can be more consistent that's his major problem oh and the usual passing it backwards
If the majority of our recent performances are anything to go by, the pre match instructions would go something like this....' Prem - your logic is totally arse about face and your comments are increasingly bizarre. Try dealing in reality - not some half baked theory proving the world is flat. The actual reality of McInnes's inspirational team talks is : we're in **** street.
The only logical team talk right now would be: "My balls are on the line, and now so are yours. If we don't win today you're all on the ****ing transfer list and we'll use that money to buy some players that want to be here." If we lose Nyatanga, Carey, Skuse, Elliott, Mark Wilson, and Morris are out on their asses. I'd drop Fontaine as captain and give him two games to prove himself, otherwise he's gone too. We know from experience that players are happy to play like **** because they are out in the summer anyway. McInnes cannot rally the troops; he's not that kind of manager. Therefore, if we cannot afford to sack him sell our ****ty players and get some new ones that want to be here.
and you would know being an integral part of the squad...? Again, how do you know Ender..? Answer is, you don't - I don't either but I really can't imagine why most of the teams he played for made him captain if he was not able to inspire his fellow team mates, quote "The then-Lions boss Nigel Spackman gave McInnes the captain's armband with the comment: "Every Millwall player on that pitch should be a Derek McInnes." Sounds like someone unable to inspire to me - also, I can't imagine any Glaswegian being anything other than scarey when angry...
He's from Paisley which is even rougher than Glasgow, and especially being a wee bit vertically challenged. What they lack in size, they make up for with aggression both verbal and physical. It's just that he has not yet worked out how to stop the pre October 2011 idiots running the asylum, but he will even though it's taking longer than I thought it would when he arrived.
Did you even read the article... I thought I had made the words big enough but just in case you missed it, here they are again SELF PRESERVATION.... Why don't you ask to meet DM and sample his inspirational ability first hand (face value comment)
Ok, lets try this - how do you motivate someone you are going to let go in the summer and they probably know it.... Is that clear enough...? (oh, and before you say it, read "professional pride")
There's a huge difference between being a good leader and being a charismatic leader. Players like Roy Keane have gone on from being perfect captains to a seemingly fantastic manager, only to bottle it when things went sour. From what I've seen at matches and through press conferences, it is clear to see that McInnes lacks the charisma that managers like Holloway and Redknapp have; both managers that can lift a **** team and make them better than the sum of their parts. I don't doubt that McInnes is a great manager and that he could tear **** up if the players get on the wrong side of him, but is that going to motivate the players? Yes, he could be completely different around the players, but from what we can see from the outside McInnes is already struggling to rally the troops and doesn't appear to have much left in the tank regarding his current squad.
