The great thing about the signings of Jane's great grandson and Matty Philips was the surprise factor. These were negotiated discreetly and announced once all terms and conditions were fully accepted by clubs, players and agents. Wishful thinking perhaps, but I'd like to see a few more of these.
Agree totally as soon as I see in the paper that we are linked to this player and that player you just know another team will beat us to signing them.
Never fear, our Harry's on the job! please log in to view this image and so is Rosie...... please log in to view this image Nothing wrong with a little back seat transfer diplomacy. please log in to view this image
SO do you think as soon as we put an offer in we go to the paper and tell them? I doubt it. Most of the players we're linked with are just speculation, the one's we have been confirmed as putting bids in for, the news has come from the clubs who've accepted the bid. Our board might have been guilty of being silly in the past, but I don't think they advertise their business. Harry might talk about a player we are chasing, but only when it's in the press. Let's give the club some credit ay.
So difficult to stop leaks these days. If I was the agent of a player contemplating a move and one club came in with a bid, I think I wouldn't be doing my job properly if I didn't make it known somehow and endeavour to create a bit of competitive tension, particularly if I'm on a percentage.
