I rather enjoyed it back in the 90s when, for a few games, Nilsson's 'Without You' was belted out on the Hammersmith End (it was probably due to Maria Carey's then-recent version, but being an old-timer I thought of Nilsson's one). There was something rather poignant about the 'Can't live if living is without you' stuff at a time when we were fighting for survival on and off the pitch. Sadly, we went down to the fourth tier at the end of that season. When someone started up the song the following August, an older fan snapped out a terse 'Shut up!' and I never heard the song at Fulham again. Shame. At times I play with the unlikely notion that the curmudgeonly old feller might now be a regular on this board. Anyone want to own up to it?
I think players should actually have there own theme songs that get played over the tannoy when they are on the ball for more than a few seconds (same goes for sound effects. A car skidding when a player goes in for a sliding tackle followed by a crash, tinkle as he makes contact. A large gong-like bong when a player takes a ball in the nuts, bongo feet like they had in the Flintstones for when he breaks into a sprint, that sort of thing). Anyway - for player themes I propose: Busy Doing Nothing (Ruiz, Berba, Taraabt, Bent) Oops, I Missed Again (Stekelenberg, or Sidders for his tackling ability) Speedy Gonzales (Kaca or Dejagh) Another Tatoo (Riise) (it's a Weird Al Yankovic song) Pretty Vacant (The midfield) Quit This Town (Mitro) What Have I Done To Deserve This (The Fans) Let 'Em In (The Defense) Wipeout (The Forwards) Just a few quick thoughts.
Can't imagine who you might be referring to, old bean. Myself, I'm well known for lovin' a parade and a good old sing song - "Mackay Out" was a particular favourite that year.
