I think where we are at is actually slightly similar to say France in 1998 or Spain this year. We've no forward up there but there is a way we can succeed. We need to be very solid and hard to beat and that means not conceeding those bad goals and making us hard to beat. Stoke 0-0. they never threatened us Reading 1-0 they really didn't hurt us either. now these are hardly big tests for sides wanting 4th are they? lets be frank, but for once we are not throwing them in. Many on this site have put some of this down to johnson being o nthe left not the right and while i don't agree necessarally I have to say our current back 4 in conjunction with allen makes a solid base. I think if we get the basics right and get the odd goal here and there (suarez should a no. 10 not a no. 9) then we can pick up the points unitl hopefully we address the forward fire power. Spain stuck fabregas up there i nthe euros, france had dugarry and he linked with djorkaeff who were not world beaters at the time. surely we can do similar. France: Barthez Thuram Desailly Blanc Lizarazu Deschamps Petit karembau Zidane Djoraeff Dugarry i think while we are only developing we've got the potenital to be very solid like this.... if suarez can get the shots on target and sterling keeps developing/ gerrard steps up to be the goal getter we can get a few results. Roll on everton!
A way of being hard to beat is maintaining possession. The opposition can't score if they do not have the ball
indeed i was thinking that myself.. and thats what spain do... they only nick a goal here or there against the better sides and they kill the lower sides off. We're not there, but we are trying.
