I do sort of agree with Tom - although it contradicts my post. I have a mate who has admitted he is an alcoholic (and has been dry now for over 12 months), who did lose his licence for drink driving. He was in a bad place and didn't think - no excuse, but I can see how it happens.
He probably wasn’t thinking rationally. I’d still throw the book at him. Not many people think Rationally after a few drinks.
I haven’t done that and by the tone of this, it sounds like you have. Is that right? I am not pure as the driven snow, but I just won’t do that. anyone that does, deserves the same contempt if caught.
You're making me sound like a mass murderer. When I first had a car in the 70s and lived in a small village, the nearest pub was 3 miles away. Probably the least pissed one drove home through the country lanes ( the term designated driver hadn't been invented then) So yes i have drunk and driven but I've also grown up and been educated since then. In fact I'm a bit of a bore when lecturing Serbian drivers who still live in the 70s but never say i'm perfect.
When I was a young adult people often had a few drinks before driving....because the law stated not that you shouldn't drink and drive, but you shouldn't drive whilst incapable. The test was whether you could walk a straight line....breathalysers didn't exist. It was kind of left up to you. Driving after 2-3 pints would be considered pretty responsible. The breathalyser changed people's attitude....now most people would have only a single drink if they have any at all.
I’m not at all. You made light of the situation, or at least a suggestion that we’ve all done it or we’re not all whiter than white. Simply not true. Sorry SIS, I just don’t find it a light matter and generational changes don’t make it any less wrong.
Has anyone else got that nasty cough that’s doing the rounds currently ? Mrs J and me have gone from being fine on Monday evening , to both coming home from work yesterday , and coughing so violently , that we have actually been sick . I have never in my like had a cough where my sides actually hurt .
Beautiful views from my hotel this morning. A little grey, but to be expected here. Wonder if @Qwerty recognises it?
The last Male white Rhino is dead https://www.theguardian.com/environ...hinos-death-highlights-huge-extinction-crisis
Almost seems disrespectful to put an announcement of the death of Katie Boyle after news about the last rhino, but anyway: https://uk.yahoo.com/news/former-eurovision-host-katie-boyle-172608115.html This is a real blast from the past and only people of a certain age will remember her...but to all youngsters, this lady was big at the BBC in her day.
How incredibly sad am I that I am seriously considering spending £240 on a bunch of world cup stickers. Actually it would be £245 with the album, what a ****ing loser
Tragic....there will have to be an enquiry. It may seem an unlikely accident, but people drop things and have to retrieve them in cinemas and theatres every day. And I can easily imagine a child crawling about. The footrest should be easy to pull down. Also extremely tragic was the recent child drowning....the mother reported her car stolen with a 2-yr-old inside, but in fact the car had rolled forward into a river. She will never get over that. I know people will say you shouldn't do this or that with children, but there isn't a parent in the world who under pressure hasn't taken a chance. The mother's punishment far outweighs the 'crime'.
The Northern Rhino is a subspecies and they are hoping to resurrect it by artificial means. However, it is important to remember it is a subspecies...important, but not like losing a whole species. Animals and plants are being lost all over the planet....the way forward is to link local prosperity with the wild life. Easy for us to criticise farmers for taking the land and poachers, but we aren't poor and hungry. Invest in the local community, get them involved and look very hard at what multinationals are up to. Extinction is a natural process and has happened for millions of years (and will happen to us), but it is the speed of extinction that is the concerning thing. Nature not being given time to adapt.
