I am chipper at the moment, but even now worry about the end because modern medicine keeps you alive long after you should have gone. I would feel so much better knowing I had control over the situation....only want to live when life has some meaning. I have watched suffering in 3 people.....and for what...a few weeks or months lying in bed in discomfort and embarrassment. I get the point about pecuniary issues coming into the mix....but I share that as well. Have worked to gain a small house and inheritance to pass onto my son.....certainly don't want it to be spent on keeping me miserable in a home. I was in charge of one friend's interests and she spent a miserable year or two in various nursing homes...she never expressed a view on euthanasia, but as she was only aware and in discomfort for odd days at a time, it would have been kinder if she could have drifted away in her sleep. I think there should be options, but with safe guards.
Completely respect your view, Greensaint, and agree that there needs to be safeguards to stop the small minority from trying to get someone out of the way for (usually) pecuniary advantage. I posted at a time of extreme distress and I’m a little more stable now, but I DO think something needs to be done. My sister begged the doctors and nurses in her last conscious moments, but there was nothing they could do, except withdraw food and water. She took 6 more days to die - agonising for all of us, but mostly for our 95 year old mother. I don’t know what can be done, but am going to try and find out more over the next few months. I suspect I’ll have a bit of money put aside to go to a clinic in Switzerland if I ever get the chance. I certainly don’t want to let my children suffer like that.
People will have discovered what kind of people they are and how they react under fear of death. Worrying it's so easy to hit the wrong button.* *Yes, I know the big red one has a locked cover.....well, it does in sensible countries.
Just watched the episode 'crocodile' from the latest series of Black Mirror. So dark and depressing. Going to the gym now to shake it off!
Bloody hell . Creepy or what . He has her mobile number and knows where she lives ! http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/artic...man-after-a-driver-sent-her-unwanted-messages
I couldn't see this posted so hopefully it's not a repost. There's so much negative news in media nowdays that good, positive news stories often get lost.
Love whales - they’re so intelligent and gentle. I imagine saving the human could well have been what they were doing. And still they’re hunted for “scientific research”
Saw it, but not on this forum. Reminded me of a story from a few years back where a school of dolphins swam round a swimmer protecting her/him from some sharks. Probably related to how they would protect their young....guess humans resemble immature, rather stupid dolphin kids.
Another Aaahhhh moment http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05...ttenplaytime&intc_linkname=bbcone_fac_vidclip
