While I'm against hunting for ****s and giggles and I think it's totally wrong, especially for big cats because I love cats of all sizes... sometimes the money raised from hunting is used for conservation work which makes it at least slightly less terrible... That being said, endangered animals should be completely off limits.

I have doubts about these conservation promises....I suspect most of the money is siphoned off and the merest dribble is given to such causes to save face. Many endangered animals are ignored because they are not attractive or large enough, but many can easily be raised or kept in relatively small areas....elephants and other large animals breed and grow slowly. They won't be replaced overnight and many, like elephants and apes, have family groups....the youngsters need their older siblings, their parents and grandparents. There are only 2 reasons to kill an animal....culling if necessary (numbers can rise too fast without an apex predator nearby) or for food. Rich Americans should be made to eat their prey....an elephant will keep them going for quite some time.

It reminds me of the countries killing whales for 'scientific' purposes then selling the meat to supermarkets.

Spent yesterday morning sat by a waterhole in South Africa watching 20 elephants drinking, playing and interacting. Decided then and there that the ban on hunting Trump, his family and their supporters should be lifted ........

I take your point , but pretty sure I read somewhere that the money raised for conservation work is no longer reaching the intended recipients. It was working , but no longer . Will try and find the article .

It is strange , we will have to wait and see , but I agree , how does it happen ? Was the visibility crap ? One of the pilots made a mistake ? Tragic either way , hope in a way it was mechanical failure .

Was discussing this with the head ranger at the lodge I was staying at. He said what happens in their reserve is that, when there are too many of one particular kind of animal for the ecosystem to cope (or, as he pointed out, one of the older male lions can no longer compete with the youngsters and will most likely be killed in a fight with one of the younger males), they will contact hunters who put in a bid to hunt these specific animals (and only these). The winning bid goes direct to reserve management and the money used for upkeep or to heighten security (mainly for rhinos and elephant).
These seems to me to be the best way to manage hunting in such a way.
Interestingly he told me that there are a number of reserves in South Africa where lions are kept for “canned hunting” - that makes me really mad

Has anyone seen the new Tesla Trucks and Roadster:

    Truck and Semi:
500 mile range [absolute worst case scenario]
400 miles = 30 minutes of charging, so charge the vehicle while you have an enforced by law rest/meal break.
0-60mph in 5 seconds. At maximum weight, 0-60moh in 20 seconds
All up cost a single truck is 20% cheaper to run than a diesel truck. In convoy [2 or more they are 50% cheaper]
Guaranteed to not breakdown within 1 million miles.
    Buy from 2019

    Roadster:
    620 mile range [worst case]
0-60 in 1.9 seconds [yes it will out accelerate EVERY car on the road and only two or three motorcycles will be able to keep up]
    0-100 in 4.25 seconds
    250 mph top speed
They are making them right now, so buy soon.

Yes, there is no mention of price. But there is nothing here that isn't in their other vehicles, in principle. The Electric Truck cost of operation is price included. The Roadster is a case of paying for the highest performance road car in the world, so any price is possible. But the truth is that by watching the video you also see the death of the fossil fuelled car. Can't come quick enough. More power to Tesla, as if they need it. I think Nikola would have been pleased.
