Sad news. Brightened up Saturdays during a dark part of our history. Scorer of one of my favourite City goals against the Blunts.
A great larker - could take Abel Hernandez to school on most aspects of being a striker. https://blythspirit.wordpress.com/2015/12/14/green-white-cult-heroes-the-mutrie-brothers/
A Working Class Geordie lad who was in his late 20s when he signed for us from Blyth Spartans after impressing against us in 3 FA Cup ties. Nigh on 50 goals in just over a hundred games is an impressive record and he made the Fourth Division PFA Team of the Year when we were promoted in 83. He was an uncompromising but very useful centre forward; I remember him fondly. Good luck Marra, a terrible disease that you have to face.
Very sad news. His winning goal against Scunthorpe at The Old Showground on a Friday night is one of my best memories from that era.
Oesophagal cancer, one of the truly ****tier forms of a ****ty disease - a work colleague and mate died of it, when it presents itself it's usually way too late for any meaningful treatment. Good luck Les, thanks for the memories.
I remember him for his great contribution of goals during our poorer times. Very sorry for him and his family.
Any cancer cure works better on a patient who is as fit & strong as they can be to withstand the treatment! The fact this horrible disease prevents you from eating properly Doesn't give the patient much hope! #****offcancer
